Hi, I'm trying to figure out how to have a light shine through something; I'm trying to get a light to shine through shattered window hole but every time I render the picture, the light doesn't shine through the hole. How do I get the light to shine through the hole? Thanks for the help in advance.

What sort of light are you using and how was the hole in the glass created?

Hi, Thanks for replying. I was using a spot light, trying to see if that would work and the holes in the glass were created with a trans map I created for the glass.

First check to make sure that the surface the transmap is used on has cast shadows checked. I'm sure you already set the light to cast a shadow as well. When you positioned the light did you look through it and make sure that it was aimed properly and nothing was in the way? I'm going to guess that since you needed a transmap for the hole that the rest of the glass is opaque? Is that correct?

edit to add.. and which sort of spot? Does it have fall off?

Which application are you using? Can you see though the hole when you render? What are the surface settings for the glass, the light settings for the light and the render settings you are using? Does the light shine correctly in another scene, without the modified glass? Are you wanting plain light, or are you wanting caustic/refraction effects?
