Is Carrera ever going to be free again?

I am basically a noob even though I have had Daz for awhile now. What is killing me is creating the sets. Why won't you make Carrera free so we can create sets for ourselves. Is there another program that we can use to create sets? I have tried to import obj with sketchup but it is too much of a hassle, textures all screwed up and other problems. I'm simply frustrated and I need some answers.

If I don't have Carrera, how can I create sets for my characters? In Blender? But will it be a pain to import as well. I understand that we should buy sets to support our artists and I will but I am on a very fixed budget and can't afford the money right now. Please give me some solid answers so that I can get on with my art. I am a noob and don't understand all of the crazy shortcut terms some people use so please make it basic.

I'm grateful for your time and help

Danny Bright

Carrara has never been free. For a time Bryce and Hexagon were available at 100% discount. Now they are available at a very much reduced price compared to what they were when first released.

    http://www.daz3d.com/bryce-7-pro

    http://www.daz3d.com/hexagon-2-5-download-version

both have bridges so that they can work with Daz Studio.

Hexagon is a modelling program Bryce is sold as a Landscaping rpogram, although it does far more than that.

HI Chohole, I am trying to create sets for my Daz Characters. I cannot afford Hexagon or Carrera or any program right now. Please tell me what program I can use to create decent looking sets for Daz.

    Blender?
Will Hexagon be free some day?

Can Bryce create interiors and exteriors? I would love to buy Bryce and use it but I don't know if I can create architecture with it.

Thank you for your time and patience.

    Danny

As I said Hexagon is the modelling program in the DAZ stable of programs.

In the meantime have you explored the Freepository. Particularly this thread is helpful http://www.daz3d.com/forums/discussion/75/

and if you have specific things that you are looking for you can ask here http://www.daz3d.com/forums/discussion/30004/

There were some free copies of obsolete versions of Carrara that were offered with the purchase of some magazines in the past, but the current version has never been offered for free as of yet.

That said, it's only $65 for Carrara8pro right now and comes with the M5 pro and V5 pro bundles included free, which is content you can use in Studio even if you never decide to use Carrara. That still may be outside your budget, but thought I should mention it at least.

Hex is very low priced, and is a modelling program, sounds like that's what you're seeking, at least to some degree, a program which can make 'things'.

Honestly for the V5 & M5 pro inclusion buying Carrara is a no brainer.
Lots of handy content for DAZ too.
Even if those anatomy geografts WILL give you issues in carrara
I believe it can be worked around, I do not use them in my renders as I do not do that type.
(well have in jest but not porn)

Thank you for your reply and to everyone for showing a noob that it's not all that hard!

Can Carrara stuff be imported into DAZ? I've seen some very nice scenery packs in the store for it.

I don't have Carrara yet, but from my understanding (as with Bryce) it may be possible with some stuff as both have an export to .obj option so you should be able to export the obj from Carrara, then import the obj into Daz.

Not sure why you'd want to export Carrara into Studio, if anything it's more likely you'd want to import your Studio stuff into Carrara (though I guess you don't need to since Carrara works with Studio stuff natively).

Those Howie Farkes scenes if converted into .obj files would choke anything short of a super computer if you brought them into Studio, just wouldn't be pretty at all. Carrara can handle a huge amount of stuff, especially when it's Carrara-native stuff (like trees, terrains, etc).

I think many stay in studio because it is what they started with and do not want to move out their comfort zone,
I had no choice when I started 6 years ago, my laptop did not run DAZ studio very well, it showed me my desktop too frequently but Carrara ran fine
so I never got comfortable with DS.
and it frustrates me still even on a nice desktop that handles it with its limitations and slow renders.
I actually started with Carrara 5 free on a mag disc before I found out about DAZ so never got studio-ized.
