saving an animation

I am sure there is an easy way to do this that I can't find but how can I make an animation for a character in one scene. Save the scene and start a new scene and give the character the old animation. Basically, I want to continue the animation into the next scene without having to do it all over again.

 

Example. I have 3 characters in the first scene. When the scene ends and I start the next scene, I want two of the characters to continue doing the same motions they were doing in the first scene but I want to do a new animation for the 3rd character. Is there away of just copying the animations for the first two characters and bringing them over and applying them to the same two characters in the new scene?

With your character selected, you can use the "Save as ... Pose Preset" to save the animaition and with select which frames you want to save and you can even select part of the character to save as a preset; you open a new scene and apply your saved pose to the same or a different charcter as any pose.
