Will the newest version of Daz work on this machine?
So I have been gone for over a year. Obviously there have been some massive changes. I'm currently running the Daz 4.12 beta version with the regular 4.11 (non Beta) version as back up. I would like to go to the latest beta version but want to make sure that a. it will work on my machine and b. It won't mess up my categories. I also ran into an issue with the 4.12 beta when I installed it and repeatedly get a no valid post reg error message despite the fact that I can see it in the files. this of course makes it impossible for me to download content via connect. I prefer DIM but there are things that I need connect for.

You didn't post what your GPU is.
Honestly I don't feel the changes have been massive in the past year. new version of DS with a few changes and a new figure generation that doesn't add that much to the existing one, IMO. I was running 4.12 up until last month because I had read many times that 4.15 uses more resources, but my experience so far has been the opposite.
if I was you I would just backup everything and give it a shot
BTW, welcome back!
Thank you! Good to be back. Baby steps lol. This is my gpu. I'm fine with sticking with 4.12 but the error message I get about not having a valid postreg probably needs to be fixed.
Intel hd graphics 630
nvidia geforce gtx 1060
The 1060, being a GTX as opposed to an RTX card, will be at an additional disadvantage since required RTX features are implemented via extra code loaded into VRAM.

ETA: Practically speaking, this means that some scenes that fit in VRAM and rendered under previous versions of DS will take up more VRAM in current versions and potentially drop to CPU.
sounds like I would defininitely be better to stick with what I have until I upgrade my machine sometiime in the future. What I have is more than adequate for what I need. Any thoughts on my postreg issues or should I start a separate thread on that?
When I built this system I had the Intel HD630. the CPU will do all the rendering. It will do Simulation also. Just slow. but it will work a pinch.
At the moment, I don't have any categories set up, but have been threatening to do so for quite some time. Here's some links I've set aside for when the time comes - maybe they'll help:

I was planning on setting up a few cats, backing up, resetting and then reloading to test before going crazy spending too much time, but sounds like you've already spent the time setting yours up. Good luck!

As far as the CMS error message, I'm no expert, but I think it boils down to making sure it's installed/configured, and making sure it's running. I'm not what message you'd get if it was corrupt - maybe somebody else can chime in here. Either way, seems like backing up before messing with it may be a good idea.

ETA: Firewall/antivirus could also be an issue here - especially during installation should you need to re-install a version of PostgreSQL.
I did a whole webinar for Daz on custom categories lol. Every single item I have is in a custom category. Last time something happened to it, it took me about 4 months to rebuild them. They are now on a separate external drive. I seem to remember when I installed 4.12 and tried to fix the post reg issue, I checked the firewall etc. Its telling me thata valid post reg cms connection could not be established
I use a GTX 1060, and it does work with DS4.15, but I'm finding I need to be more rigorous about reducing un-needed SubD stuff. Also I have had to change a number of textures to lower resolution. With 2 figures it's usually OK, but a third becomes a bit of a gamble with any sort of background. Ultrascenery + 1 character is the limit that way.

Richard
Thank you. I think I will stick with what I have and work on the post reg issue. Its not a deal breaker either, everything pretty much still works. I just can't use dazconnect
