What is meant by install NVIDIA vMaterials 2.0.0 Shader Presets for DS?  I downloaded the zip file and unpacked it.  Then I ran the scripts from there.  It all seemed to go as planned but there are no new materials.  Any help would be appreciated.

The shader presets should be in subdirectories from where you ran the script from. Does your Content Library not look like the image in the first post?

I am trying to get this working at the moment.

    Note about one issue:

The mega.nz download has the two scripts in a subfolder not in the root. The install screenshot on the first page shows:

But the files in the zip are in:

I copied them manually into the root and it is working.

    @Omniflux
    @Catherine3678ab
    @Bejaymac

    Thanks for creating the presets.

(theese forum stalls are annoying, took me three attempts to post this)

  • vmaterials 2.10 has released, is there anything in it worth making new shader presets?

  • OmnifluxOmniflux Posts: 376

    2.1 has minor changes

    • a few new variants on existing materials
    • a couple new materials
    • renamed some materials
    • moved some MDL file locations

That last one is a problem as it means not all the existing 2.0 presets will work if you only install vMaterials 2.1, so I will generate new presets.

  • OmnifluxOmniflux Posts: 376

At least one of the MDL files in vMaterials 2.1 crashes DS 4.21.0.5 (the current release version) upon rendering. I downloaded the 4.21.1.26 beta and verified the issue appears to be resolved with it, but I am going to hold off on releasing Presets for vMaterials 2.1 until a version of DS it does not crash is generally available so that people who ignore warnings don't lose work when they inevitably try to use them anyway.

Thanks for the update and will watch for that, pretty sure the version I have is noticeably older since my computer was in the shop for over 6 months.lol

Just to let people know in regards to ShareCG, it appears that (at least from here) they have fixed the issue to allow new members to join.

    Question:

I noticed the OP states "A few shaders are updated versions of jthose in vMaterials 1.7, but most are different. You probably want both."

I think I've successfully installed vMaterials 2.0, but I'm not finding some of the materials in the thumbnails, particularly the copper patina and a few others like colored glass/precious minerals... are they only included in the vMaterials 1.7 and not 2.0?... or should they be in there?

And therefore to have the full library, one needs to install both...?

The wording seems to imply the differences between 1.7 and 2.0 are minor color differences, but it seems like perhaps there are actually whole materials types not present in my installation.

The previews shown on the first page of this thread are all from 2.0, you should not need to install 1.7 for them.

Thanks for the quick reply and info... I'll look around and see if those materials manifested somewhere else.

Edited To Add... After opening DS a second time the materials seem to all be there, some of the materials I was actually imagining because I confused NIVDIA's materials with something else... either I missed the patinas or they loaded properly after I shut DS down.

    Thanks again!

    Hi everyone

Does anyone know how to get vMaterials into Substance Painter?

The vMaterials page lists Substance Designer as a supported app but I wondered if they can be used in SP as well?

This might sound like a dumb question or 2 or etc., since I just read the entire thread. The very first option for installing was either next or finish. So my question is if this is where I click finish or is there any extra thing that needs to be installed. I have no idea where to install the shader presets after, since my main Daz is on C drive, however, I have external Libraries on D drive, including one called scripts and shaders. In order for the presets to work, where do I maually install them.

Firstly you want to click next not finish on the installer.

Secondly I tend to stick scripts and shader in my primary runtime, but if your other stuff works from there, these should work too. Id stck everything in the shaders library though, so you dont have to go looking in scripts for your shaders.

Thank you verry much for your work Omniflux! First i installed both: 2.0 and 2.1, now delete 2.0 and all things are fine. It is really nice!
Question: Are there huge differences to 2.4?

Mostly just additional shaders. Unfortunately, until DS updates to a newer version of Iray (the public beta uses a newer version), some of them will crash DS upon rendering. I do not plan on releasing an updated set until this is resolved.

The beta is freely avaialble to all, so why not update the shader presets for DS 4.22.1.161 and Nvidia vMaterials 2.4 and document which DS version its intended for.

A lot of us regular users run the beta, but the beta keeps changing before it gets released. Maybe trying to keep up with beta changes seems like wasted effort. I don't know how much work goes into creating the new presets.

Ok, using the updated script from this thread - https://www.daz3d.com/forums/discussion/comment/8000791/#Comment_8000791 - I am currently creating the shader presets for the vMaterials 2.4 set.

I have also double checked the Daz Studio change log and the last time the beta updated to a new version of Iray was just before Public Beta 4.22.1.123 - So I will post the presets when they are done and they should work on any version of the beta from 4.22.1.123 and up.

I will add the link to this thread so that OmniFlux and update the main post.

Im not a huge script person so I was hesitant to run it at first but its running fine atm.  15min in, just over 15% complete and no errors yet

EDIT:  3 hours and 10 min later and DS has converted 2595 shaders.  Dont know if that is the complete set or not but its sounds like its close.

EDIT 02:  I am waiting to hear back from some testers to make sure they work as intended atm

You need Daz Studio Beta 4.22.1.123 or higher

    Nvidia vMaterials Collection ver 2.4.0
    https://developer.nvidia.com/vmaterials

DS shader presets created by me using OmniFlux's script
    https://mega.nz/file/G1ZmRCQZ#sovCjlRQLXbAnKWSOksGhf6vWqM1qLXJs8iuICuWUDU

OmniFlux's Script: - Please see screen shot

    https://www.daz3d.com/forums/discussion/comment/8000791/#Comment_8000791

    Instructions:
Let the installer install the vMats to their default location.

Install the DS presets in to DS.

Download and install OmniFlux's script.  You need it to tell Daz Studio where the MDL references are.  You do NOT need to run the script to create the shader presets.  It works the same as the content database manage

Please test out the wood mats as they will call for textures.  If you set the install path via the script correctly then DS should pull all the textures from that location.

I downloaded the materials from nvidia's website and I'm running Omniflux's script to make them.

Which seems to be working perfectly.

Thank you very much Omniflux :)

So far I't's taken 20 hours 23 minutes and it has made 3,481 presets.

I'll get to testing them when the script is done.

I'll be using the current Studio beta.

The folder structure looks correct so I'm assuming at this point they should all work.

    @Mattymanx

Thank you for making them for us :)

I should have checked here first.

I feel so sorry for you, having to render that long for no reason.

    and you're welcome!

    :)

    23 hours currently

    3,673 shaders finished

    73% done

I should have checked to see how many were actaully in that package from nvidia

    seems like alot.

  • MattymanxMattymanx Posts: 6,902

Nvidia advertises the set is almost 2600 and Daz Studio reported that it converted 2595 shaders.

If I were you, I'd just cancel the process and down load my presets.  Be a lot quicker

Stopped it and report said 3708 converted, 1246 skipped.

Not sure why it found more than the 2600 though.

Maybe it was converting the older ones also?

If I decide to restart the script, will it just convert the skipped ones?

Or will it restart from the begining?

edit: I seem to have gotten many more shaders now.

alot more glass and other materails to choose from.

I like the smoke tinted mirror shader :)
