Spotlight not working

I've run into a strange issue. I looked through the forum, but didn't see any other disscussions on this same issue. My spotlights sometimes work and sometimes they don't work at all. This has happened randomly several times. I will load a spotlight (working in iray) set it up how I want it, save, close and then come work on it later. Randomly the spotlight stops working, no light from it when it was working. I try adjusting different settings, but there is no light at all. I create a plane and make it an emmisive and that works just fine. Deleting the spotlight and adding another into my existing scene doesn't work either. I have to create a new scene and load a spotlight for it to work again. Anyone run into this issue? Thought it might be the video drivers, but reinstalling those didn't fix the issue. Any ideas? Thank you.

I have a similar issue with spotlights. When I add a spotlight to a scene, it seems to work in the preview screen, but when I do the actual render it doesn't work.

Which "Environment Mode" are you using?

The Spotlight work only with the ones that mention "Scene", ie. "Dome and Scene" and "Scene Only"

It's the same on either of the environment modes. The thing is that the light works fine at times, other times it doesn't work. Once it stops working I can't get it back working. It's always after a save and open at a later time. I've tried closing and re-opening DAZ, restarting the computer but to no effect.

  • Do you have an example scene you could upload? Ideally one using the default content, so that it will open correctly for everyone.

  • I went back in this morning and the ligts were working. Not sure what's going on. If it happenes again in the near future I will post the file.

I am having the same issue, I duplicated my lights from the the 1st one placed and not all lights are illuminted in easy view or iray, wierd.

  • I get the impression that the light sometimes gets blocked by itself if "Render Emitter" is "on", so the light is visible. And switching it off can fix it?

There's more discussion of the Render Emitter setting in the forums. My thinking may be wrong, because margrave said '...turn off "Render Emitter" to get it to stop being directly visible. However, I do believe it will continue to block other lights and cast shadows in your scene'.

Richard Haseltine appears to understand it all - I certainly don't!

It doesn't work with Sky.   Which is common to use for night renders.  But if I switch to scene only lighting its fine.

What modes are spotlights supposed to work with?

I had this issue, Google brought me here, and this comment fixed it. Thank you!

If one wants to use Sun-Sky options plus effective spotlights or whatever scene lights, set Dome or Dome and Scene Only in Environment Mode, and set Environment Map to None...

I wouldn't think that would work if set to Dome, you'd need Scene as well for lights.
