Getting back up to speed...What are 3DPrintGeoGraft and PoserCF files?

edited December 1969 in New Users

When I last here, Genesis I think was not yet released. I was using Poser 8 & 2010 but am looking at Poser 2014 soon.

I have a 3D printer coming in a few weeks so I was starting to get stuff loaded again on the PC. I grabbed DS which includes the Genesis and Genesis2 figure bases. But there are files ending in PoserCF and DPrintGeoGraft I am unsure of how to use or even what they are for.

And what the heck is a DUF file?

And must I use DSON? I just want to drop the files in runtimes like I used to. Not an option anymore?

Man, its like starting all over from scratch again :(

The geograft files are an alternative (and optional) file which offers the possibility of making the Genesis figures "watertight" for 3d printing.

Poser companion files are the files which Poser users need to take Genesis and other DS models into Poser using the DSON importer.

The DSON importer is neccesary to use the more modern figures in Poser Will not work in Poser 8

DUF is the current DS file format

That cleared up much of it.

I was looking over the genesis2 files. I don't seem to see any OBJs anywhere. Where are the OBJs that I can load up into a mesh editor to create morphs from?

And do I have to in stall DS to get anything genesis/genesis2 into poser? I can't just install things anymore?

And where are the kids? I found a teen pack but I can't find the equivelant of Matt/Maddie for Genesis.

They don't come with .obj files -- I believe DSON Importer creates an .obj, but I'm not certain.

You don't have to install DAZ Studio, just the DSON Importer for Poser.

Genesis Starter Essentials includes a Child shape, and Zev0's "Growing Up" has an excellent set of child morphs based on actual age-based proportions.

For Genesis and Genesis 2 kids I'd highly recommend getting Zev0's Growing Up morphs bundle. They include a great set of ageing morphs so you can youth the figure while taking full advantage of Genesis' morph capabilities so you can mix and match appearances for lots of unique tots.

In addition, a recent release called Belle 6 and Brodie 6 are a couple of young teens which include not only two adorable kids morphs, but also a wealth of kid-friendly clothing for Genesis 2 and some great kids textures. It's hard to recommend it any more than I already have in previous posts, but if you render children the bundles are well worth every penny.

    Brilliant! Thank you so much.

I tried to search for "genesis 2 kids" and got nothing but pointless and totally unrelated hits (try it, you will see). I had forgotten how poorly Daz's store runs since they made it over a while back (one of the reasons I got frustrated and left Daz so long). Its so counter intuitive if you are not sure what you are looking for. People & Wearables should be two totally separate categories for instance. But I digress...

Once I solve my current issues with Genesis (next post probably), I will look at those two. Yes, I wanted the equivalent of Luke/Laura too.

Ok, I am either not getting this or something is broke. I grabbed the 30d Poser 2014 and installed it.

I installed the 64bit program in:
    D:\Programs\Graphics\Poser Pro 2014

All my runtimes each have their own folder in:
    D:\Docs\poser\Poser Runtimes

So, following instructions, I installed DSON in the program folder, D:\Programs\Graphics\Poser Pro 2014

    I downloaded IM00016280-01_Genesis2FemaleStarterEssentials.zip and IM00016280-02_Genesis2FemaleStarterEssentialsPoserCF.zip

I extracted them to my quarantine install folder:
    D:\Docs\poser\Poser Runtimes\_Install

That produced some .DSX files and a Content folder. After parsing some threads here, I gather that whats IN the Content folder was supposed to go to the runtime folder. So I went in the Content folder and copied everything and dropped it into
D:\Docs\poser\Poser Runtimes\Testing1 which is one of the library roots in Poser.

As you can see in the attached screen shot.

I thought it was all working. I can run Poser and insert "Genesis 2 Base Female" in the scene. The DSON importer ran and did things (not sure what). She is in the scene, she is posable. And it renders. I thought I had it worked out. But....

The minute I put her in the scene, Poser's library panel becomes totally unresponsive. I can't change folders to go to the poses, etc.

Thinking I did it wrong, I wiped the test folder and did it again. Same result. I tried restarting poser several times, no avail. I started it fresh and inserted Aiko 4, Applied some Thorne morphs, some poses. The tree works fine. So its definately the Genesis figure that was the problem.

So, I tried something different. I inserted G2F into a scene and saved it. Closed and restarted poser. With the Gen4 library selected I opened the scene. Again the library became unresponsive. Really laggy.

So again I exited Poser. I RAR'd up the DSON folders so Poser couldn't run it. When i restarted poser and opened the G2F scene, it opened. But G2F is nothing but an outline. (see attachment 2) No figure mesh. I can pose her by moving the limbs and spining dials also affect morphs. But she won't render. But, the library works perfectly. So its something DSON is doing (or not doing).

    How to I fix this?

    I downloaded DSON yesterday, 1.2.0.12_Win64.
I verified my 2014 is up to date according to the SM site, v10.0.5.28445.

As a follow up. Tried DSON_Importer_for_Poser_1.1.3.49_Win64 (beta) as well. Same result.

As I said in the other thread, turn off the progress bar in Scripts>DSON Support>Importer Preferences or switch your library to floating instead of embedded. One of those usually works.

Yo! Thanks for the followup! I missed your post in the other thread, sorry. I did try to search for a solution before posting. Must not have my SearchFu going tonight.

Turned off "Show Progress On Load" which is what I presume you meant. So far so good. Loaded a saved scene and it let me use the library panel which it didn't before. Started a new scene, added G2F and it still let me go to the poses tab :) Win!

Guess its a known bug in DSON eh?

    Thank you brother! Big help.

Yes, it's a known issue - but it affects only some users, which makes it hard to fix.

Well, if yall need me to run some sort of debug script to gather info, just let me know, I would be happy to help. I fully understand how hard bugs like that are to squash.

An aside... it would be nice if your webmaster would wrap checkboxes and their text with a tag. It makes the text activate the check box. For example the subscribe checkbox at the bottom of the page:
<input type="checkbox" class="checkbox" name="notify" value="y"/> Notify me via email when someone posts in this thread

    Add a label tag:

    Cheers!
