"Apply to Figure" Upon Selecting a Character File Takes Much Longer than "Load a New Figure"

Here's a head scratcher: I'm trying to wittle down my G8F load times by tossing out figures that I don't like.

Loading G8F into the scene takes 1 min 30 seconds, round about (according to logs).  Remember that time!

The intuitively-obvious manner to do so is to load G8F into the scene and one-by-one apply my character .duf files to it.  Should be relatively straightforward: the duf should recognize that the character is loaded, apply the People slider, load any accessories, and apply textures/shaders.  Nothing too difficult, right?

Applying a figure like so takes 15 minutes 30 seconds, round about (according to logs).  Even if it's the exact same character that's already been applied.

What's up with that?  I checked, and loading into a new figure still only takes 1.5 minutes.  Sadly, I can't just do that over and over because DAZ leaks memory like a sieve: loading a character, deleting it, and loading it again results in ~1.5 GB memory usage increase.

How do I get around this?  Is there something wrong with my setup, resulting in this awful apply time?  Or a way to ease the memory leak?  Having to reload DAZ every time to trial all of my characters is going to be such a pain!

  • I see the same kind of thing, but others I have reproted it to at Daz don't - their character presets are no slower to apply than a regular load, at worst - so there is presumably soem other factor at work for us.
