Total Frustration - Content Library

The most frustrating thing about DAZ is finding content in the Content Library. I've spent more time looking for content that is is ridiculous.

Any help to put me in the right direction is most appreciated.

For example: I purchased a bikini for V4 from Renderosity by Powerage called Hot Summer 2011 and copied the files as indicated to the Studio > My Library sub-directories.

I searched every branch in the Content Library directory tree for this product. Although I can see sub-directories for:
DAZ > My Library > Geometries > Powerage > HotSummer11 and
DAZ > My Library > Libraries > Pose > Powerage > HotSummer11 and
DAZ > My Library > Textures > Powerage > HotSummer
no content appears in the Content Library.

I verified that the files are in the directories and scanned known directories for files in DAZ.

The character files are CR2 and PNG.
The Pose files are PNGs and PZ2s
The texture files are JPGs.

My only guess is that I need to put these files in directories other than indicated in the Powerage readme file and the directories as they are unzipped.

Again, any assistance is appreciated.

Tom

Geometries, Libraries and Textures should all be inside a "Runtime" folder inside your "My Library" folder. In DAZ Studio's Content Directory Manager the path to "My Library" folder needs to be under both DAZ Studio Formats and Poser Formats. Once the changes are made you should be able to locate the files in the Content Library pane under the Poser Formats.

    jestmart,

Thanks for your reply. One step closer. But still not there.

I am now able to load the bikini, but can't find the textures to change the color.

I had moved the files all under Runtime. So I now have:

    DAZ > Studio > Runtime > libraries > Powerage > HotSummer11
    DAZ > Studio > Runtime > libraries > Textures > Powerage > HotSummer11
    DAZ > Studio > Runtime > geometries > Powerage > HotSummer11
    DAZ > Studio > Runtime > Templates > Template_HotSummer11.jpg

In Content Library, I have Poser > My Library > Figures > Powerage > HotSummer11. I would expect to see the textures in a sub-directory under it. But all I have are the CR2s.

So I take it, I still have the textures in the wrong place.

Thanks again for your help. It is really appreciated.

    Tom

I also copied the textures to:

    DAZ > Studio > Runtime > Textures Powerage > HotSummer11

and still do not see the textures in the Content Library.

    Thanks.

The figure will be in the Character library (appears as Figures in the Content Library pane, as it does in Poser). The materials will be in the materials library, not in a sub-folder of the character folder - that is how Poser content is usually arranged, though it's no linger forced by the applications.

That isn't how it works — you should never see the texture files themselves in the Content Library. You should be looking for the pose files in the Pose folder, which contain instructions for D|S on how to apply the textures to the clothes.

Thank you both for your responses. I was able to apply the textures found in the Content Library under Poser Formats \ My Library \ Pose \ Powerage \ HotSummer11.

Though this is a bit illogical to me, but I'm a new kid on the block - what do I know.

Thanks again. I appreciate your assistance.

You are not wrong about the lack of logic to how DIM seems to put things into the content library. It often makes little sense to me.

Really I wish it would say on the product page, "This product will be placed into Poser Formats/My Library/Figures" or whatever, so you know where to look for things.

In DIM you can right-click on a product and choose "Show Installed Files", or click on the information (i in a circle) to go to the readme. Unfortunately, the old-style Poser Runtime rules can be pretty confusing if you aren't used to them.

FWIW, it is possible to check where something is supposed to be installed; Click on the "help" link at the top of any store/forum page, go to the Documentation Centre, then the "Product Readme's" (link in left sidebar). You do need to know the product SKU #, though, from the store page. Once you've found the proper doc page, scroll down to the Additional Details section and there's a link to the file list, which shows the folder paths for all the files in the item's installer.

(Note that many older items have incomplete or very brief readme's — and some were stored on the old ArtZone site that's been defunct for several years and not yet restored.)

Yeah, I know you can do this.

But really, the content library should just default install things to obvious places instead of seemingly-random ones -- I shouldn't have to do all that work just to find where a damn prop ended up. It should be in PROPS.

Oh, I agree completely. The best way to find out from the product page is to look in the Notes section at the bottom for what kind of installers there are. If it shows a DSON Core Installer then it's been packaged to modern standards; if it only says Poser Core Installer then it's probably been packaged using the legacy Poser rules.
