Modding the G-suit:
Okay, to start with, I managed to get a few ideas from reading the earlier post on applying textures to the surfaces of primitives over here: http://www.daz3d.com/forums/discussion/51744/ but what I'd like to figure out is how to do that to bodysuits to change the pattern on them.
I get that there is a library of textures that are flat .jpg s that you pick for materials and figure making a new one might be simple enough if you could extract then modify one of the current ones (where to put it back though? I don't want to screw up the CMS!).
Are there any publicly available Genesis 1 and 2 templates like the skin/torso/body "maps" for the textures, which you can use as templates or outlines (or if not, at least what dimensions are used) to create your own skins? I'm not talking about screwing around with the UV Maps or doing anything to the meshes... what I'm aiming for is a way to change suit patterns (through importing to Photoshop or any other general graphics editor then exporting the resulting new pattern back) to increase the variety.
I feel like just painting in 2D over the material zones on the rendered scene in post is holding me back, and would like to introduce some custom patterns to the textures to be able to make more/different superheroes in a realistic way. [Are there] Any suggestions or helpful tutorials floating around somebody could point me to, please?

It's easy to retexture or recolor an existing texture template. I have done this with G-suit 2. What you do is this:
Put a character into the scene. Place the clothing item, G-suit or whatever, onto them. Then apply whatever material comes with the suit.
Now go into your surfaces tab, with the suit selected, and look for the Diffuse color slider. There should be an image map loaded next to it, on a little clickable icon. Hover over it (do NOT click). Look at where the jpg file that is being used for the texture is being kept on your HD. Then go into your image editor of choice (GIMP, Photoshop, etc) and open up that file from your HD. Do a quick save-as to somewhere in your documents folder - anywhere you like, though I put mine in the DAZ3D/Studio/My Library/Runtime/Textures/MyTextures folder. Give it a different name, like MyGsuitTexture1.jpg.
Now that you have saved it, you can edit it, play around with it, etc. One easy thing to do is to make a new layer on top of it. Then use, in Photoshop anyway, the magic wand to select all of the clothing areas, and on the new layer, make a new color inside those areas. Then you can save the file again as a jpg.
Now back in DAZ, this time click on the icon next to the Diffuse color slider and this time choose browse. Browse to the file you just created and load it. Ta-da! New textures, colors... whatever you have wanted to do.
If you look at the avatar next to this post -- that is the G-suit 2. I changed the color and added stars and stripes to it by making my own JPG file for the texture map.
