Worried about upgrading to DAZ Studio 4.7
I have a very large content library and have spent a lot of time tagging, organising and categorising content so I can find it.
I am on version 4.6 and would like to upgrade, but I am really worried that I will lose all this hard work (as many others have reported)
Is it safe to upgrade? Any recommendations as to how?
Thanks

Are you using the Valentina CMS, or have you already switched to PostgreSQL? Check to see if you have a CMS Settings tab in Edit>Preferences - yes means you have switched. In any event, if you haven't you definitely want to back-up your customisations - go to the Content Library option menu (lined button in the top corner, or right-click the tab) and choose Content DB Maintenance, then check Export User Data and click Accept. With that you should be able to restore your categories even if you have trouble (which mainly happens, as far as I can tell, when a Valentina database was trembling on the verge of corruption anyway).
In Edit > preferences I have the following tabs
General
Startup
Scene
Interface
Content Library
So I guess I should back up?
When I have exported the user data, where does it go and what do I do with it?
It goes into the Runtime\Support folder, as Userdata_#.dsx - and I would advise backing up after a spell of customisation even if you switch to PostgreSQL, which generally seems more stable than Valentina (hence the switch).
Two questions.
1) if I upgrade to DAZ Studio 4.7 - how do I get all the customisations back? do I have to re-import all this data somehow?
2) how do I change to PostgreSQL? I thought the content management system was just part of DAZ Studio? (didn't realise I could change it)
1) with luck the CMS will survive, this is just insurance
2) PostgreSQL will have an installer in DIM - you don't have to use it, but if you install DS will know to use it instead of Valentina. If you also "install" (that's actually run) the Valentina to PostgreSQL Conversion tool it will, with luck, convert the database for you.
If you don't use DIM, you can also download the PostgreSQL installer from your Product Library.
If you need to restore your User Data, just re-import metadata -- the first item on the list is your user data.
great! thanks both.
I don't use DIM as it happens, so I shall do it manually.
My backup Userdata_1.dsx file has been created (I might copy it to a backup location too!)
I back up the userdata files in a zip every time I install a lot of content or reorganize my categories.
