Daz can't find files that exist (Solved)

AabacusAabacus Posts: 407

Uninstalled within Daz Studio then reinstalled and ran "update metadata"

For my issue that worked.

----

I have a new install of Daz and am pretty sure I've somehow messed up something.

Windows and latest Daz Studio. (not Beta)

Start a new scene and put a box primative in the scene.

Select the box and apply !Iray Uber Base.

I get this popup:

Would you like to save changes to the current scene before closing it?

I click no:

"Could not open file /Shader Presets/Iray/DAZ Uber/Iray Uber Base.duf File does not exist."

Details show location as:

E:/Personal Files/DAZ3D-Files/Applications/Data/DAZ 3D/My DAZ 3D Library/shader presets/iray/daz uber/!iray uber base.duf

I browse there and click the file then get the path:

E:\Personal Files\DAZ3D-Files\Applications\Data\DAZ 3D\My DAZ 3D Library\Shader Presets\Iray\DAZ Uber\!Iray Uber Base.duf

As far as I can tell the file is there.

Daz Connect Data is located at:

E:/Personal Files/DAZ3D-Files/Applications/Data/DAZ 3D/My DAZ 3D Library

I thought maybe it was a file length issue 121 characters.  So <128 (though I don't know what the max is.)

This happens for all the base install files however it works fine for all other installed content.

Things based on the base content also work fine.

I've tried uninstalling and reinstalling the base content files with no luck.

Log file says:

2021-09-26 12:09:07.015 Could not open file : /People/Genesis 8 Female/Genesis 8 Basic Female.duf
File does not exist.

Any thoughts on how to troubleshoot this?

Connect Data is on that location, but your path to the files is not a path for Connect.

Which paths do you have specified in "Content Directory Manager" for "DAZ Studio Formats"?

Try replacing the hyphen in DAZ3D-Files with a simple space.

I would except that the only thing that seems to not be working is the Starter content. Everything else works fine.

How do I uninstall and reinstall the starter content?

Have you mixed different installation methods?

Mixing DIM/DAZ Central/Manual installation is ok, but if you use DAZ Connect inside DS, it will override any and all installation methods, even when the installation had failed (which it is known to do)

I started with Daz Central but ended up using DIM. So...yeah...in a few cases but 95% DIM.

Actually I used DIM to install a ton but found much of those grayed out inside DAZ Studio. So I methodically went through and installed them from inside Studio. However, I don't remember what they were.

Interestingly it's ONLY starter essentials for Daz8 that are not working. Looks like everything else is working...including Starter essentials for 1,2 and 3.

    It's really odd....

    Anything installed by DAZ Connect would be in;

    E:\Personal Files\DAZ3D-Files\Applications\Data\DAZ 3D\My DAZ 3D Library\Data\Cloud\[Product ID]\

Instead of the traditional location used by the other installers.

Do you find the Starter Essentials there?

Genesis 8 Starter Essentials is not located in that older (I looked up the ID and checked the folders.)

I also checked to make sure /cloud/??? worked and loaded up things from that location.

Is it possible my CMS is mispointing? How do I find what's in the CMS database?

    Thanks!!!! I appreciate you helping!

There are two ways to try to fix the situation.

Apparently DAZ Connect has at some point at least tried to install them, hijacking the priority and causing the DS to search for them in \Cloud\xxx\ and ignoring the installed files in the traditional location.

Try to reinstall them with DAZ Connect or uninstall them with DAZ Connect.

I uninstalled and reinstalled then ran update metadata. (See attached for that)

    Looks like it worked!

I would never have thought to uninstall inside Studio.

Everything seems to be working again.

    Curiouser and curiouser....

Thank you @perttiA !!! Appreciate the lookout!
