Rendering just a Shadow?

I animated a nice shot of a character walking. I intend to comp this into another background so I didn't have a ground plane. I realize this means I don't have any shadows either. Is there a way to render just the shadow, or do I need to render the whole shot again? Is there a way to turning a character off, but still have it cast a shadow? Perhaps a way to speed this up is render at a lower res (not 1920) and turn off some of the more complex elements like hair?

pwCatch will make a shadow catcher http://www.daz3d.com/pwcatch , though you can also create your own in Shader Mixer - there is a thread with instructions, but I don't have a link to hand.

I think this might be the thread you meant, Richard - the info is at the bottom of the page: http://www.daz3d.com/forums/discussion/40796/
ETA: By the way Richard, I get a permission problem if I try to follow the link to docs.daz3d.com in that thread - should this be so?

Not as far as I know - I suspect it's a left over from having some work done on the wiki. I'll report it, thank you.
