Daz keeps saying "Genesis 8 Starter Essentials" is not installed...

I've reinstalled it everytime It's pop'd up, even manually, yet this still keeps popping up on certain scenes. Any idea what to do?

  • How did you install? If through Install Manager, Daz Central, or manually did you redownload the Genesis 8 Starter essentials zips to make sure you have the current version? If through Daz Studio itself it's possible the files did not install correctly (and if that is the case, manual or Install manager/Central installs will not help) - try right-clicking on the product and seelcting Browse to product Location, or right-click on a file and Browse to File Location, then check through to see if theer are any 0 byte .part files. You coudl also look at the end of Help>Troubleshooting>View Log File after getting that message to se if there are any helpful messages saying what files it thinks are missing.

Hey! I've tired all, through Daz Central, DIM and manually, yet still having the issue. Now when pressing install, it starts then disappears instantly as it obviously notices it has it installed already. I'm really not sure what to do, it's messing with my render queues.

I recently reinstalled Daz and have custom Daz folders, but all are added a directories and I even tried to clean install Daz earlier and reinstall it fresh. Any idea which folders I should check specifically?

Since you get this inside DS and you allow the installation, it means that you have also installed the starter essentials inside DS which renders all the other installation methods non-relevant.

Whatever is installed within DS, is being installed to a completely different location and gets priority over all the other installation methods, even when the installation gets botched which it often does.

Inside DS, go to 'Smart' Content, locate the product and try to uninstall, close DS, wait a while and start again - Can you load G8/G8.1 characters without warnings?

In the future do not log in to DS, but use it in offline mode.

I uninstalled it and pressed work offline, restarted and and loaded up a scene file I've been getting the pop up in and still got it (but now it's greyed out rather than blue). Beyond frustrating - how do I log out permanently?  I've never really used install manager, I like to keep my directories tidy so install manually, I'm guessing the problem has been caused from here somewhere. It's just this one issue I'm having, but need to fix it so it doesn't stop my render queue from running over night.

I can load a Gen8 character fine, but not surprised as I've installed this into each five of my directories manually so I doubt they'd be an issue. It's frustrating as it's clearly installed. Any suggestions? Thanks for the input btw!

When have you installed the Genesis 8 Starter Essentials? There is no reason to install them five times to different directories, as long as the (main) directory has them.

Could you take a screenshot of your Content Directory Manager with all the trees expanded like in the attached one

Oh yeah I know it was pointless haha, was just honestly losing my mind so was trying anything.

Here.. honestly it wasn't a mess like this until I reinstalled Daz and tried fixing these issues, and I seemed to have got loads of other new folders which has made it a mess and completely confused me. All the ones on the Z: drive are my manual Daz folders, other than the application branched one, that appeared during a reinstall when I was trying different methods to fix this stuff.

That is a mess, start over.  Uninstall all content and delete all content directories, both from the computer and inside DS Content Directory Manager.  Create a new content directory at Z:/Content/My DAZ 3D Library and set it both in DIM and Studio.

Yeah it's become a mess... I can't delete the ones in my Z folder though (other than the applications one), I have over 250gb of files in there I need to be using.

I tried uninstalling daz earlier, but everytime I thought I fresh installed, it recognised my files on my Z folder so it clearly didn't work... I deleted every Daz folder I could find...

Content related problems are never being fixed with reinstallation of DS as DS has nothing to do with that content.

I removed all that too - I don't think the problems are coming from custom folders (probably the new ones that appeared). I never had this problem before until I re-installed Daz and DIM

"Trying anything" usually just creates a bigger mess.

Apart from you having same content installed to several locations, you have nested Content Sets, which is never a good thing and may be the reason for your warnings.

What folders do you have under Z:\DAZ Assets? Data? Runtime? People?

Folders do not "appear" by themselves

Yeah that is now my main folder, the others are ones I used when learning Daz / early on so I keep them there as there is some assets I require in there sometimes.

You could try moving the "Applications" folder out of Z:\DAZ Assets.

Create a new folder Z:\DAZ Moved, put the "Applications" folder there and change (delete old/create new) the three paths in Content Directory Manager to point to the new location.
