Hi.

Can someone tell me what sort of license is necessary to export 3d models from DAZ Studio and use them in a computer game?

Thanks.

    A games developer license (or 2 or 3) .

There is a game developer license which covers DAZ 3D original products. You will also need licenses for any items you use that are PA items, and be warned that not all PAS have such licenses, only the ones shown on this page in the store

If you do a search for 'game' in the Store, you will find many of them at around $500 for Indie and $2,000 for Commercial.

Some PAs have them, but not all. The DAZ 3D one only covers models which give DAZ as the vendor.

I was looking at this one:

    http://www.daz3d.com/indie-game-developer-license

However, I got confused because it says:

"Note:DAZ 3D published or brokered content MAY NOT be distributed under this license and is subject to the regular DAZ 3D EULA. All discounts are not applicable to this item."

What does that mean? I thought the purpose of the license was to distribute DAZ 3D content with your game?

    Thanks.

The key words here are published and brokered. This is any content that is not directly owned by Daz 3D and is merely sold in their store. Some of these, such as Stonemason's, have their own licenses and some do not. For those with no particular license, it's implied you cannot distribute them. If you want to use them in a game, and there's no license available you'll need to speak to the PA who owns it.

    Edited for clarification.

It means the license applies only to content that lists DAZ 3D as the, or a, vendor. Content that lists only a PA or reseller is not covered (though the PA may have their own Game Developer License).

Whether this means "DAZ 3D as the vendor" or "DAZ 3D as *a* vendor" is a considerable difference. This is still not as clear as it could be. Does it mean that the license covers all models that have DAZ 3D (more specifically, "DAZ Originals", since there is no vendor "DAZ 3D") listed as an Artist? Or, does it mean that it covers models that list *only* DAZ 3D as an artist, with no others listed?

Let's get even more clear. Does the DAZ 3D Developer License cover this model:

    http://www.daz3d.com/elleth-hair

The PA in this case does not have their own license. So yes, covered?

A vendor. So whether "DAZ Originals" is the only vendor or if there are other vendors also listed, it is covered by the DAZ Originals gaming license.
