Thank you for watching. This animation took me about 3 months from start to finish . I have a street racing animation I am rendering right now that is proving to be a challenge in using motions i never used before. I guess thats what makes them fun to make
I look at a animation as a Puzzle. and you have to complete each piece of the puzzle in order to see the complete animations. I guess thats why I say make the animations you like, because you will be working on it for a while. and hopefully when your done others may like the the finished puzzle too. :)
A hint of my animation file order.
1)Title folder, then put in sub folders and name them, Models (what I set up my story boards in), Movies( a place to put all my rendered animations), Premiere( My Movie editor folder), Sound( to keep my sound files in), Photoshop (for post work, scenes, and custom textures, Promo's advertisments etc.)
when I render my movies I usually bake and save my scene to the timeline first. and then before i render I use the settings in the renders tab & I save my scenes in 1920 x 1080 HD. Then save as a AVI using with Microsoft uncompressed codex selected which my movie editor works best with for 1080 HD animations
Too Save my scenes I don't name them 1,2,3,4, etc.. that can get confusing...lol I name each render scene I save in a in order or the scene used. Like this , Scene01- 2seconds, Scene02-10seconds. scene03-3seconds.
I do it this way in case I need to redo or edit the scene while working in the film editor I will know exactly which scene and how long the scene is. My animations are render at 30kfps .. I also before saving the avi I go to the temp render folder and make a copy of all the rendered keyframes PNG's of the scene and save them for back up before saving the avi to complete the rendering..
Yup its all like a puzzle...lol
These are really good animations. I'm still so amazed at the quality individuals can achieve with Daz. I'm trying to learn animation but I get stumped - back off for a little bit and come back. My biggest hurdle is sets - how to make them look 'Large' and seamless. How should I add clouds to the sky ect. I'm having a real hard time with that. Any idea's?
The clouds in my animations came from a set I bought from Stonemason LINK: http://www.daz3d.com/winter-terrains-for-daz-studio. I like to do a lot of kit bashing myself , "Kit bashing" is a term folks around here use too mean, taking props, objects and things from one set of models and combining or removing props, objects and things to another set to make totally new set sometimes combining multiple sets or models to make one huge "model set" , and it just take a little imagination & practice putting things together & learning how to move those things along the timeline. working with daz studio is like any other software it has a learning curve. once you get the basic idea of how the daz Studio software work & learn a little about movie and film making it doesn't take long to make cool stuff that is fun to watch :)
@Ivy Thanks a ton - I see what you mean by kit bashing. Make sense now that you mention it lol. I'll see what I can come up with. I've read some where that using Gen3 is a no-no for animation right now - I'm not sure of the specifics though. I'll probably just use models from V4, Gen 1 and 2.
Again, thanks a ton!
You can make animations with Genesis 3 just fine. But in my opinion it will take a lot more work to do so, because gen3 is fairly new and seriously lacking in the tools and plugins needed to create proper motion files and transfers those files into a pipeline of work flows that was meant for a older generations. , so everything will have to be hand key framed and saved. and that file will only be good for Genesis 3 & not with your older generation figures. But again thats just my opinion. Other opinions may vary :)
edited for spelling
Okay, I was wondering what was up with that. I will say that my attempts to animate with Gen3 have been most frustrating....I am far better with V4, G1+2 like I've been reading in posts here.
I have a question for you. I would like to create something fantasy - but how would create a set that is an open plain or heavly forested area? This is what has been bringing me to a halt in my animation attempts.
To be fair I have been building my animation library a very long time, I have a few software I can switch between if i need something to work a certain way. that I can't archive in daz. and I have a lot of great sky-domes and Bill Boards ( bill boards are flat sets that cut down on how much resources it takes to make a scene) . I use them for making massive scenes like forest, fields. cityscapes etc . then I will use some good quality models for closes up to try to make the whole scene matche, it take a little imagination and practice. ..I seen a set the other day. But I have not bought it yet . though I have it wished listed. and this is the kind stuff that helps to do for what your looking for, This is new & are bill boards so you can add loads of trees to a scene http://www.daz3d.com/em-aspen-billboards-and-forests
Here is a few of my favorite Pa's I use regularly for environments because of how well their sets work great in animation .
Free skydome & textures by Glasseye , At sharecg.com they are made for poser but they work very well in daz studio. you may need to convert them to subD if you use UE lighting though.
Any world dome or add-on paks that go with them in Magix 101 Store . He got some really great world-domes sets for both Iray and 3dlight my favorite one I use most often is Trees and Skies Pak for WorldBase-XT But beware that is its not for Iray. & you have to have worldome-XT as well which will give you those large world Atmospheres.
If you get any set from stonemason you can't go wrong, all his stuff tops notch & kit bashes together pretty seamlessly . works great in animations I try to buy his stuff when i can on sale
And my favorite Vender for easier to animate models is FirstBastion store. if you need something to go into your large scene or need a excellent environment set in a animation I pretty sure you will find it there. Why I like his sets is because they are very easy to edit the mats in , he set things up in sections and usually has tons of stuff you can move around, and he does a great job providing your lights and cameras so cuts down on set up time and you just have to tweak them for your needs.. and best of all FirstBastion stuff kit bashes very seamlessly . he does a really great job with his set so they work that way. you'll see a lot of his content in my films .
These are just few of my favorite things.

@Ivy Thank you so much for sharing those links and some of the products/Vendors you use. I really appreaciate it. I'm already populating my Wishlist and have made a few purchases. :)
Thanks for the break down , interesting to know how others go about it . Working on a new short animation my self useing Daz dragon , having fun :)
Please make sure to post your finished work. I love to watch animation and what other do to create it. .. :)
NO AUDIO - This quick animation test put together in DAZ3D's DAZ Studio 4.9 program using a modified pre-built character, clothes, and hair, animated with modified pose sets, expression sets (my blink pose), DimensionTheory's iRadiance Studio HDRI, and renderered as a series of images using Nvidia Iray (24fps), and those resulting frames imported and rendered as a video file in Sony Vegas Pro. 600 iterations per frame, rendered at 2048 x 1152 and downsampled (resized) to 1280 x 720 in Vegas to help eliminate noise seen in the hair in previous animation by blending neighboring pixels. Using a modified Eloise character by Emma and Jordi, Anjou hair by AprilYSH, Ashleigh jumpsuit by Nikisatez.
NO AUDIO - 700 iterations, rendering at a larger size, and then resizing in Sony Vegas Pro appears to have eliminated noise from the hair. Roughly 4 hours to render out 109 frames - around 2 minutes 10 seconds per frame (24fps) at 2048 x 1152 (16x9) in DAZ Studio/Nvidia Iray on an ASUS GTX 780 ti CUII OC using ASUS default settings. Automatically resized in Sony Vegas to 1280 x 720. Animation done by quickly and simply applying pose and expression presets along the timeline in DAZ Studio just to show it can be done. Some poses were tweaked to avoid pushing through the jumpsuit and going through body parts which could only be noticed at larger display resolutions.
thats nice Kevin
love the expression
i think you know how much a little audio does to a video
would be fun asking a lady for a voice over
now make it a bit longer and show again
in "Space Cadet Luther", @11sec how you did that sky aura? was that a postwork with video overlay or their is a product in daz or any?
Thank you, Ruphuss! I've been talking to a local voice actor about voicing my character(s). Still working it out.
i also love your spell casting animation
how about some particles here ?
is it keyframed or mocap ?
mcasual has a new firefly remover out
i hope we can use this for image series
perhaps that shortens render time
Thanks, Ruphuss! I had fun making the spellcaster animation. I made it just as a test trying to get render times down in 3DL but attempting better quality. It was done using a motion capture file from BoneTech3D's Bonus Wizard Combat Animation Pack, with a little of my own keyframed facial animation, and basic camera animation. I'm still figuring things out, and trying not to forget what I've learned in the little spare time I have.
Thanks for the tip on mcasual's new firefly remover! It will be worth checking out if it saves time.
For those who haven't seen it:
:) Nice start to something big.
as i always say we need good normal walk animations
I hope so. Trouble is I usually hit a wall with my abilites, and then switch gears to work on something else. Eventually I will complete something big though. I find I learn better by jumping around and trying different techniques though, so thats what I've been doing. The goal lately has been to get a grasp on lighting techniques.
lol, I know. But I did nothing to try to clean it up either. I could have made that a lot smoother.
Keep at it, Dominic!
Really good video accept for the girl walking through the parking meter in the beginning when she turned around., other wise fun video could use a little sound fx to help it along. but your animations are still very entertaining :)
@ DominicTesla
I feel ya,. I hate it when you spend 2 days rendering a scene to find a mistake after its done. I'm currently rendering out a animation short. of a 6 minute epic street race , using both Iray and 3delight. so I know what you talking about render times. this has been in the works for a while. I'm finely down to my last few scene and I've been doing my film editing as I go along.adding my sound effects and stuff . so when i done rendering . I'll should be done my film editing at the same time. so other than I just have to get my paper work in order for credits and copyright so I can post film public. that is so in case Facebook, Google or YouTube wants that information. Sometimes they ask me for stuff like that. especially if your using music files.
Hi DominicTesla
Because I am a Google partner & use a lot of sound and music files in my animations Google, YouTube, Facebook, Have all asked me for proof of being allowed to use those sound files. they usually ask for links in a PDF doc. I have had YouTube once ask me for proof for my usage for my daz 3d content ( see screen shot 2) which I had to use a screen shot of the products i was using in question in my daz account to prove i had usage rights to them. So its become a automatic habit for me to just have all this paper work ready for them when they come asking . I started just using pdf docs like this one and loading them to my own web site.
But i have a whole web page on my web site that is just for copyright in formation and coprights for Ivy Summers for my animations & art work as well. and I didn't stop there, I felt it was in my best interest to protect my own content so I had a lawyer friend right me up a terms of use for my stuff. Plus I figure while i was at it I mise well list all the products i had used in my films so other daz users can see the products i am using .
Plus Its amazing at how many greedy money grubbing free loading companies such as rumblefish or CD Baby that do nothing but surf youtube and social sites like youtube. (see capture 1 below) that will pray on you & make false copyright claims on your stuff to try to gain monetary value from your work. even though its not theirs. you need to ready for them to prove ownership of your work.. the capture below was a false claim agaisnt one of my animations where i had recorded some bird chipping sounds and they try to claim it was their bird sounds.. (give me a break.) this is the video in question. which once i proved I owned and had rights to everything yotube release the claim
So yea if your planning on using sound files and daz products on YouTube , I would be prepared to have this information for the wolves of the internet.. other wise they only give you 14 days to prove ownership or they will pull your video, or attach their name or someone elses to your work with their own advertisements & credits & not yours
there is a heck of a lot more to making and posting animations in social media than their is posting still render art. animations requires a lot more proof of copyrights, but doing so keeps my Google partnership stanadards in good shape. see capture below. if your an animator you almost need a lawyer in your pocket, thats why I list my end credts at the end of the film in case someone tries stealing it . they got a lot of work to do, to remove those meta data tags from my film..lol
