Lighting Questions

First, I want to refer to this forum post: https://www.daz3d.com/forums/discussion/70257/can-an-object-be-transparent-for-light-only
I have a similar problem. Trying to light indoor scenes can prove to be a challenge. Distant lights are blocked by walls and ceilings, and Spots leave most of the scene in the dark. I would like to know if there is a "Cast Shadows" like option for Iray, because the dominant answer seems to be "No", something about Iray being a physics-based engine. Assuming there is no such option, is there a way to use Spots, or something similar, to light an entire scene?
Thanks in advance.

You could have asked in that thread rather thans tarting a new one.
Iray, in photoreal mode, does not have optional shadows (interactive does, but there is a high price to pay for that feature-wise). Spot lights can be given a shape in their paramaters, so they are not just points.
- Try Point Lights.
- Try Ghost Lights, eg https://www.daz3d.com/iray-light-probe-kit
- Try surrounding your scene with an HDRI that roughly matches your interior and use Section Planes to cut off walls that are out of frame.
A point light will light up your entire scene, provided the lumens are high enough and/or your tonemapper is set correctly. If you change the geometry to Sphere and increase the size, it will create a more even, diffuse glow.
Make the ceiling Emissive and use the ceiling diffuse colour image in the colour setting.
