Troubleshooting help needed: Scene load stops suddenly - Windows 10 "not responding"

Hi all,

switched to a still powerful mobile workstation(1) due to some computer maintenance on my 3D workhorse. Reinstalled the entire toolchain incl. DAZ from scratch (DIM).

Worked on a smaller scene, rebooted, then tried to load the scene again. Desired behaviour: the scene that could be edited gets loaded.

Actual behavior: DAZ stops loading the scene at an arbitrary point, after a bunch of "Could not find output property for formula" warnings like e.g.

(...)

Could not find output property for formula: Genesis8Female:/data/DAZ%203D/Genesis%208/Female/Morphs/Virtual_World/VWLashes/VWLashes%20Lower%20Large.dsf#VWLashes%20Lower%20Large?value in file : /data/DAZ%203D/Genesis%208/Female/Morphs/Virtual_World/VWAndrea/VW%20Andrea%20Head.dsf

(...), the nodes (?) get loaded and then the process stops at e.g.

2021-08-27 19:17:21.994 Loaded first morph deltas: 0m 0.12s - /data/DAZ 3D/Genesis 8/Female/Projection Morphs/DAZ 3D/Teen Raven 8/pJCMTeenRaven8_ShinBndBckR_HDLv4_proj.dsf
2021-08-27 19:17:22.016 Loaded first morph deltas: 0m 0.12s - /data/DAZ 3D/Genesis 8/Female/Projection Morphs/DAZ 3D/Teen Raven 8/pJCMTeenRaven8_ShinBndBckL_HDLv4_proj.dsf
2021-08-27 19:17:22.271 Loaded morph deltas: 0m 0.0s - /data/DAZ 3D/Genesis 8/Female/Morphs/Mousso/Blue/MSO Blue Lashes.dsf

and DAZ stops responding (for hours, e.g. 12+ hs), no further action. (2)

All I can do is killing the DAZ Studio process manually via Task Manager.

I'm aware of https://www.daz3d.com/forums/discussion/336566/long-load-times-fixing-warnings, but changing the monitor didn't help.

Question to the experts: how could I troubleshoot this?

Any hints for workarounds?

Thanks for any suggestion.

Greetings,

Heckbarth

(1) 64 GByte RAM, Intel(R) Core(TM) i9-9980HK CPU @ 2.40GHz, 2401 Mhz, 8 Core(s), 16 Logical Processor(s), GeForce RTX 2080 (internal, 8GByte), GeForce RTX 2070 (eGPU, 8GByte both setup for rendering)

  • Is this the General Release (4.15.0.2) or the Public Build (4.15.0.26)? The latter is known to have issues loading some scenes/loading scenes for soem users, the exact cause is still being investigated as far as I know - though it appears that GeoGrafts with GeoShells may be a factor.

Thanks for your reply first, @ Richard!

Sorry, forgot to mention, it's the Public Build. I'll try with the General Release then and report.

Ok, didn't know that, thanks for the hint!

Update: I was able to load the scene with the General Release (4.15.0.2), so thank you very much, Richard!

To the interested: Before Richard's workaround, I tweaked around with the DSON Editor (https://www.daz3d.com/dson-editor) first just saving the file in the tool (which somehow strips parts out and helped me before): no changes.

Furthermore I removed all references manually to the figure where I could find the last log entry: didn't work either.

So I'm more than happy to find this solution!

  • Final update from: Scene is loading also with the Public Build (4.15.0.28).

Thanks Richard Haseltine for your support!
