Motion blur.

Hi guys and gals.
I was wondering if there is a way to add motion blur to an item. I tried to emulate motion by using the opacity slider but i wasn't happy with the result.
The only way i can think of doing it is add the item more than once and using the motion blur.
The item is the firing gun in this image. the barrels are supposed to be spinning.

For motion blur, you use the timelime, move the item for the next key frame, then move timeline step back to zero, go to advanced settings for the render settings and check motion blur.
There is a tutorial about motion blur in the free online DS Creative Magazine, issue #3, linke here: http://issuu.com/philatdsc/docs/ds_creative_03
Keep in mind, the motion blur option under render is not comic-book style motion blur, but real life motion blur. (In other words it takes the object that is moving and "smears" it from start point to end point)
