Smoothing Modifier Stopped Working (on anything)

Has been working, now not, can anyone help?

    I had issues with mine acting up today as well. I just kept adjusting the smoothing modifier and collision iterations as well as turning the smoothing modifier on and off. I think at one point I even closed and reopened the scene. Eventually it started working again.

    Its strange how strictly logical things like computers are apparently so wilful.
