Character textures now appearing all wrong in DS
Hi all,
I've just recently started getting back into Daz only to find that some of my favourite character models now show completely messed up textures by default in Studio. Here's an example with Silver's Jenara. She should look like this https://www.daz3d.com/jenara-for-genesis-3-female , but for me now she looks like the attached image.
I've tried messing with so many of the surface settings to get her back to normal, but nothing seems to get it quite right. Does anyone know why these textures are not displaying correctly in DS anymore, and if theres anything that can be done about it? It's going to really suck if I have to write-off a % of my model collection because the textures no longer work in the new DS.

The light you get with an HDRI depends on the HDRI. You can't compare that to a three-point lighting setup like in the promo pictures and expect them to look identical.
Assuming this is some kind of legacy material issue (the product is pretty old) and not just a difference in lighting technique, select a more recent figure's materials and hold Ctrl while you apply them to the figure. Then select the option to apply the new settings while keeping the texture maps. Does that solve the issue?
Its not an issue with the HDRI. I have before shots with the same HDRI (its the default DS HDRI) that show theres been a significant change, but unfortunately I can't post them here because she isn't wearing any clothes in them.
I tried the suggestion, thank you, but unfortunately it just made things worse. She turned even more grey.
I think it might be something to do with SSS Reflectance tint, because there used to be an option to change its saturation level, but that option appears to be gone from DS now.
Are the raw texture maps as gray as that, or are they colored normally?
They are coloured normally. I think its an issue with the SSS Reflectance Tint, as there seem to be some saturation settings missing for that now. But I'm no expert, so I can't be sure.
Did you buy any characters after you picked Daz up again? Swapping the skin settings should work, but if your character keeps turning gray then maybe all your characters have legacy materials. Apply materials (including the texture maps) from other figures, and if you find one that doesn't turn gray, manually swap out the texture maps for the originals.
I did some forum archaeology and found this thread:

Ah, ok! I tried this with another couple of my new figures and, yes, it eventually worked. Great! She doesn't look exactly the way she used to but at least the texture settings are now in a manageable state where I can start to play around a bit with the colours etc.
Thank you very much for your help. I'm very grateful
There was a change in IRAY between DS 4.8 and DS 4.9 and using the older version of textures on newer version of DS, make the characters look grayish.

There was a (free) shader preset somewhere to address this, but I couldn't find it now.
No problem.
Oftentimes, I discard a figure's default skin settings entirely and swap them for bluejaunte's settings (while keeping the old texture maps). There's some bluejaunte figures in FastGrab right now. I recommend picking them up. They're some of the best-looking skins/models in the store.
