Luxrender problem with reality 4
Hi,
I am new to luxrender and rendering. I rendered the image with Reality 4.0 and Luxrender 1.3. After more than 1100 sample/pixel, I am still getting spots on the picture. I am not sure whether i need to go for higher samples per pixel. Or i need to play with some settings in reality and luxrender.
Picture is posted below. One of the lion's skin is mapped to velvet as i was trying to see which skin works best. So that is not an issue. Spots are visible on skin of lions and dress os genesis.

It does need more samples. What mode are you using, pure CPU or GPU assisted? I'd suggest using CPU only. I'm guessing you are using sun as the light source and in that case I'd suggest using a different lighting strategy. Personally, for a render like this, I would use IBL and mesh lights, but generally I think this type of large open scene will take quite a long time to clear up. I think the grassy ground is also contributing to the noise—I think I've had similar problems with this kind of background. I've come to the conclusion that not everything you imagine will work out well in Luxrender; to some extent it's necessary to tailor your scenes to what works well, although this obviously takes a bit of experience. Above all rendering with Lux requires patience, and sometimes lots of it.
As for velvet, it's a very difficult material. I've had no success with it at all and I've given up trying it—I think it requires quite a huge amount of samples to resolve properly and until that point it looks frankly horrible.
There's a lot to consider when working with Luxrender. Both lighting and surface materials play an important role in keeping your image noise free, so it's impossible to pin down exactly what the cause is without seeing the actual file you're working with.
What's the efficiency rating at when you render? Anything below 100% means your camera is having trouble getting enough light (even during broad daylight, this can be an issue for photographers which is why additional stage lights are often used), anything above is fine and higher than 200% is ideal.
