Identifying skins

I wonder if anyone can tell me how to best identify what skin materials I have used for specific figures, please? I have several characters in an ongoing storyline and I have not always saved them as subsets to reuse elsewhere - characters lose the extras like hair and genitals, I find. I am trying to work out what the different elements (eyes, skin, etc) are without having to go through the laborious process of applying something that looks right and then removing it to apply the next near match.
Thanks,
Malcolm

It may not be the best way to do so, but I tend to go to the Surfaces tab, pick an 'obvious' material zone (such as Face or Chest) and check what the name of the Diffuse map is (or in what folder it resides) as that will often inform (or remind) me of the texture set used.

Thanks. This may work, but I don't know how to "check what the name of the Diffuse map is (or in what folder it resides) ", so I can't tell.
How do I do it, please?
    Thanks,
    Malcolm

Select the skin surface (with the Surface Selection tool, or from the list in the Surfaces pane), then in the Surface pane find the diffuse control in the Editor tab and hover over the little square to the left of the colour picker - a thumbnail should pop-up, with the texture name across the top.
