Hi all

I would like to know how you guys do things and what your suggestions are.

Im very new to the 3D world and have been dabbling a little with blender and have just found daz like 3 days ago and im also learning unity at the moment so you can see where im heading.

Now my question is, how should I use the software's and what are you guys doing.

* should I make the clothing for characters and import into daz for their genesis models ? or should I create my own human based model and rig my self which I think would be a waste as its already done in daz.

* Should I animate characters in blender or in daz ?

Should I do materials in blender and then import into unity or use daz ?

Thanks for you help and suggestions in advance

Though many artists creating models for DAZ Studio are using software like Hexagon, ZBrush and Lightwave, if you perform a quick internet search for something like "blender modeling daz studio" you may find the answer you are looking for. The first result I received using Google was to this DAZ Forum post: Blender to DAZ tutorial

Welcome to the forums! You may want to post an introduction for yourself in the Welcome section of the Getting Started forum. I am putting your thread in the New Users Help forum as we have dedicated volunteers to help answer your questions.

As for Blender, we do have Blender users in the forum. Blender can be used to model the things you want to use in DAZ Studio. Many things that can be done in Blender, such as animation and rendering, can also be done in DAZ Studio. In the Freepozitory forum, there is a user named Casual who has done many scripts and objects that are usable for Blender and DAZ Studio. You may wish to spend some time going through the things he offers there. One of our PAs, SickleYield is very conversant with Blender and has done several tutorials on using Blender to create things for DAZ Studio. Her articles are on her deviantArt page.

    Welcome to Daz!

    - I model most of my stuff in Blender and non-commercial stuff that I do just for fun or just for myself in Maya, it takes time to get used to Blender and many people hate it but for beginners, it is definitely the way to go when it comes to modeling. It´s free and there are TONS of tutorials about how to model various things in Blender to get you started.

    - Animating, that´s a tricky one. I never animated in Daz Studio. I find it difficult mainly because of the lack of the rig controls and I find it hard to even pose the figure inside DS so I cant imagine trying to animate things like a simple walk cycle for example.

Also the rig in DS is not as versatile as I´m used to from Maya. So right now I am in the process of creating my own rig for G2F inside Maya so I could animate her there and sometimes I play with premade rigs such as Mery .

Here´s my very first animation I created with her a few days ago - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dFXZRGN_ZhQ

I cant imagine creating this simple walk cycle with Genesis inside DS but I guess it can be done : )

By the way, character rigging is a very complex and long process if you want it done right. Most people hate rigging so chances are you will too : ) : D

I never rigged inside Blender but I do know there is a good human premade rig that you can apply to your characters and then you need to adjust the weight painting of course.

I remember trying to skin that rig to G2F and on Base resolution it worked but on High res it didn´t since there are so many things you need to get right in Blender when skinning the rig and I had them all written down but I think I lost the paper : D

So I gave up on character rigging inside Blender and moved to Maya rigging.

    - When it comes to materials that depends on what you want to do. You need to set up the shaders separately in each software.
