How to Install Zip Files (Not from manager)

First off, Hello and thanks for this gift. I look forward to getting into DAZ.

Last night I downloaded DAZ Studio Pro 4.7 and some content packages from the library. Now that I want to install the content packages (Genesis 2 etc.) I realize I should've used the download manager. I have Internet Download Manager and didn't want to use another. My internet is not that strong and I don't want to download all the files again. How do I properly install the zip manually?

List of zip files downloaded:
Genesis2FemaleStarterEssentials
Genesis2MaleStarterEssentials
Genesis2 Male and female templates
EliteHumanSurfaceShader
Genesis2DMC

Do ALL of these get sent to the same directory?

    Hi!

In fact, you only need the essentials and shaders. You can throw them to the same category or make separate ones. I advise you to do the latter, because as your runtime will grow, you will run into problems with finding content. This is how I sorted my items: I put all essentials as well as basic shaders and morphs into Core, because morphs are dependent on each other. Then I sort all the rest between other folders. You just need to unzip them manually.

May I ask if you got the free addons as well (from here when sorting by lowest price: http://www.daz3d.com/shop/, here: http://www.daz3d.com/interactive-lessons and here: http://www.daz3d.com/freebies)? You can get used to installing the contents if you do.

I really would advise you to install these using the DIM to make sure that everything is put into the right places. Messing things up can give you many problems. DIM is more than a download manager, as it can download and install everything for you, and as long as you set your paths up right in the first place, it will make sure you are up and running in the best possible time.

I think it is possible to move the zips into the Install manager to be dealt with, I will see if I can find someone knowledgeable to help you.

if you have downloaded DIM that is a good first step

within the setup of DIM ( the cog icon top right) it asks a location to download the files to. Take note of this

you can move the folder location if you wish or leave where it is but move the files you have downloaded to that location. (this will save you downloading them again.

once you have move the downloaded files to the correct folder refresh DIM which is the two arrows in the shape of the circle and the files should show up in the ready to install tab.

as long as DIM is set up to install to your default content location that you chose when you installed DS DIM will then install the files to the correct locations.

    Thanks for the helpful replies!
I want to place the zip files into the download folder as NeilV 1 suggests so the install manager can do its thing. That sounds like the best option. when I click the cog icon, I see a directory that doesn't exist on my C drive. I'm guessing that directory will be created once I download a file the first time.....am I correct? Or should I manually make a folder? I would rather it go where it's expected. I am on Windows 7 Pro 64bit. My directory says C:>Users>Public>Public Documents, and the directory in the manager says C>Users>Puplic>Documents. Also I noticed the manager download have "Win32 exe" in the name. Is there a 64bit version or do I have the right one?

Will the installation with the install manager give me a setup similar to Cecilia's suggestion?

    Thanks again

There is no 64-bit version as far as I know. You can use the 32-bit version though. I think DIM may have an option to choose several folders, but as I don't use it, I can't confirm that. I'd imagine that you'd have to choose where to download each file manually. You can surely choose your own filepath though.

You can have multiple install locations I currently have 14 different runtime's and 5 DS content folders.

as long as you don't have the tick in the in the auto install after download you can set up all the different install locations ( Rutime's content folders in the set up options and and choose from a drop down-box in the bottom of the ready to install tab.

as for the missing folder I am not sure about that you could DL another file to see if that creates it as I created a folder in a different location on a different drive when I set up mine.

    Thanks everyone for your help!

I downloaded the free jewelry to run through the manager and it did create a new location for the downloads in C>Users>Public>Public Documents>DAZ 3D> Install Manager>Downloads. I was able to see where the manager installed the files for future reference and I placed my zip files in the download folder where the manager was able to pick up and install. I think I'm good on this issue now. The main thing for me was knowing where everything goes. Even though we have this neat installer, it's good to know where files are going on my machine.

If you want to, you can change the location that DIM downloads to, to put it into a familiar or easy-to-find location. Click the Gear icon in the upper right corner of the main window, then click the Downloads tab, then change the "Download to" field to your custom location.

(Although I know this works fine if you do it right away when you install DIM at the beginning, I'm uncertain what affect this will have if you have already downloaded some things, then change it though.)

My directory says C:>Users>Public>Public Documents, and the directory in the manager says C>Users>Puplic>Documents.

It takes some getting used to, but they are indeed the same. I have included a screenshot for those who may be wondering exactly what this is.

Glad to hear you have it set up and running DIM is a great bit of kit and I use it all the time.
