Finding Face Controls

I have a hard time finding face controls. Sometimes I just have a few controls like Eye height and width. Other times there are expressions. Other times there are a whole bunch of fine controls. What's the low down on adjusting a face to create a specific character design?

This is for Daz 4.6 on a Mac. I'm looking in Parameters…or in Shaping…or in Posting…some combination results in lots of controls. Other combinations result in fewer.

Which figures? Generally the DAZ figures from Genesis on put shaping controls on the figure, and posing controls (which includes expressions, since they are transient) on the relevant body part - the head in this case - under Pose Controls.

This is a genesis figure. Under Parameters and Actor I find some facial controls under head, but they are more about Posing than shaping. This is where i find the expressions controls such as concentration or anger. I don't find a lot of option in terms of shaping the geometry to give each genesis figure I create a distinct face.

What morphs do you have for Genesis?

I have Genesis Evolution Head morphs
In the Parameters pane with head selected, under Head, I have the following :

    Brow
    Cheeks and Jaw
    Expressions
    Eyes
    Mouth
    Nose
    etc.

There are 132 morphs in Genesis Evolution Head morphs : http://www.daz3d.com/genesis-evolution-head-morphs

I don't know how many come with the Base Genesis, but the Evolution Head and Body morphs are a great addition. There are many others as well, some even on ShareCG

I may have to spring for that add-on set of controls. I'll check out the ShareCG site…thanks!

Is the Evolution head morphs similar to the GostofMacbeth set currently on sale? I'm not sure what is a pre-set character and what is a set of new tools to make these finer adjustments on my own. Is a morph a character or a tool set?

Is this the one you mean : http://www.daz3d.com/ghost-of-macbeth-morphs-for-genesis-2-male-s ?

These are morphs for the Genesis 2 Male (free figure) and you can use them in conjunction with other morphs that you may have. They are very similar toe the Evolution morphs for Genesis as far as I can tell.

I’m not sure what is a pre-set character and what is a set of new tools to make these finer adjustments on my own. Is a morph a character or a tool set?

A preset character would be a single dial to have the effect of changing many sliders at once, to create a specific shape. Like the ones that you have for Basic Male and Basic Female for Genesis.

A morph is basically a slider to change part of the mesh, so in that way, a range of morphs can be looked on as a tool set. The one you are asking about can be used as a tool kit to create your own characters.

Thanks for the help. I bought the Macbeth morphs and they look pretty handy, but they only apply to the Genesis 2 Male. I'm trying to create a Child figure about 10 years old and was using the base Genesis child to start with and the morphs don't appear for it. I take it they are not applicable to the base genesis and only the genesis 2? Is there a way to take Genesis 2 male and shrink him to child-proportions? I'll experiment with that.

I have a morph slider in my Parameters pane called 'Boy Base' when I have G2M selected, but I have no idea where it came from.

I know that I transferred a lot of morphs from Genesis to Genesis 2 using this link from Kattey, but I don't appear to have Boy Base for Genesis (original) http://www.daz3d.com/forums/discussion/24093/

I may have got it from ShareCG, I'll look into it for you.

There is also this from Zev0 for G2M : http://www.daz3d.com/growing-up-for-genesis-2-male-s-m6

You should also grab this for G2M at ShareCG :

Thanks for the tips. I didn't even know that something for one Genesis wouldn't work for all Genesis. Now I can morph the bodies of Genesis, but not the faces…or the face of Genesis 2, but not the body.

What's Daz's refund policy on the face morph I just bought?

You can return anything that you have bought within 30 days. If you look at the 'Required Products' area on the product page, that will give you a good idea of what figure the product is intended for. Genesis and Genesis 2 are completely different figures, although clothing made for Genesis can often be Autofitted to Genesis 2, and clothing for Generation 4 (V4, M4) can be Autofitted to Genesis, but it is by no means perfect.

You should really have a look at this :

The fine print for the DAZ Hollidaz promotion reads " Items purchased to receive punches & items purchased with punch discounts are ineligible for return", but if you explain your situation you are new to DS and actually wanted face morphs for the Genesis figure it would not surprise me if they make an exception, particularly since no peppermint punches are displaying for punchable purchases bought since Saturday's releases..

The missing punch issue will probably be fixed Monday, so get your refund request in now if you haven't done so already.

I put in a request for a refund. I'm not in this for punches and frankly find the whole punch system convoluted.

Thanks Jimmy for the history of figures. That helps. It's all still confusing though. So Michael 5 is a Genesis figure but Michael 6 is Genesis 2? What exactly is Michael anyway? Just a specific morphing tweak of the Genesis base? Is that what other figures are? For instance, what is "Cara HD for Victoria 6"? Is this a morph of Victoria 6, which is a morph of a Genesis 2 base woman? Ay carumba!

Michael and Victoria are older DAZ 3D figures, and they have been made for each generation so far.

Think of M4 and V4 as Generation 4, Genesis as Generation 5, and Genesis 2 as Generation 6, so anything with a 5 in it, is based on Genesis etc.

I don't know if Cara will work on it's own without having V6, but the base figure will still be Genesis 2 Female. Any morphs that Cara has, will probably only work as shown on a base V6 shape, but it will change the appearance of G2F as well (I think :))

Just so I get this: the named figures are specific morphs of a Genesis base geometry? And a character like Dara is a morph of the morph?

Yes, Cara HD is a morph based on the V6 morph of Genesis 2 Female.

Look at the Required Products to get the full picture for anything that you buy, but you can always ask in the forums too.
