Hello everyone!

I saw this Daz thing and checked it out because, well, it's free. I LOVE IT.

I'm intending on using this for the game stuff I do (amateur designer), and maybe even getting back into doing a webcomic. I also want to explore using this for animation, as I'm a voice over artist and would love to do a few short cartoons.

So... all that said... what're the best assets to get my hands on first? The shop's got a lot of stuff, and not a whole lot comes with Daz (as expected - it's free). I'd like to purchase a nice bundle or two with some general multi-use scenery and props. And wardrobe. Gotta have teh cloths.

I'm artistic, but more inclined to physical media (sculpting, jewelry making). I've been learning CG, but so far my skill level is still slow and laborious. I love that I can just manipulate stuff in a virtual diorama. Makes it easy for me.

Anyway, nice to meet everyone. I'm very much open to asset suggestions.

-Chris

    Hi and welcome.

To be honest I would play around for a while with the free stuff you get with DS 4.7 THere is quite a bit of content included with it already, with the Genesis starter Essentials and the Genesis 2 Starter Essentials.

Any questions you have and help that you need come visit the New Users Help Forum. People in there are just waiting to help peopkle who are just starting out. http://www.daz3d.com/forums/categories/97/

We can get more of a feel of what you want to buy if we get to know you better. There is so much content in the store, and in so many different genres that we need some guidelines before we can guide you.

I have been. I'm eating up all the tutorials I can find and now I'm starting to mess around on my own just to see what things do.

Well, I don't quite know myself, which is part of the problem. I found this great creation tool - but I have no ideas. At the moment I'm really looking for generic stuff - textures, medieval/fantasy weapons and armor, props like tables and chairs, shirts and pants, just some simple generic stuff. People/characters aren't a problem since I've been messing with the Genesis 2 stuff and figuring out morphing and scaling and generally distorting it into the shape I want.

That said, I just discovered how to add primitives and am slowly figuring out materials and shaders. I think I need more info/tutorials on shaders since that seems to be what I'm really looking for. ETA: Yeah, I'm putting a bunch of those shader packs on my wish list. That's exactly what I'm looking for to start with.

In any case, I'm having fun playing around and learning what this thing can do. I've got an eye on the new user forums and hopefulyl my cries for help won't become too annoying. ;)

Hello, congratulations! I am not too far behind you. What's worked for me so far, is to get one of the Scene and Pose sets from DM.
The sets include props, and poses, and sometimes characters with morphs sets, and textures. I believe the Administrator that posted before me has also created several helpful forum topics - to include a post that lists Free Hairs and textures.

My best advice to someone just starting out is to investigate the Platinum Club Plus. You can save lots of money as a member of that club if you intend to buy very much in the store. Every week there are a few new items released at very discounted prices, and there is a whole catalog of older stuff available for $1.99 each.

Animation is difficult (IMHO) in DAZ Studio. It may not be the best tool for animation. Check the animation forum for more advice on animation. I haven't done much, because I find it frustrating.

Thank you for the welcomes. :)

I am now a Platinum Plus member. The math wasn't hard. ;)

I figured out an immediate focus... I'm going fantasy. I now have a fantasy webcomic in mind (which I'll post about in the appropriate forum), so my earlier request of "good asset packs" can be narrowed down to "good fantasy asset packs."

I'm excited now (like I wasn't already?). I've been trying to do a good webcomic for a while now, but my current drawing skills are nowhere near where my ambitions need them to be.

Welcome to the Daz forums crifmer and magnumdaz. Sounds to me like you're both off to a good start.
