Hi, I'm Ted, I'm new at this. So I have 4.7 working and I downloaded and installed the free 4.5. How do I start the 4.5?
As chohole says, there is no advantage in installing an older version. If you installed 4.5 with the DAZ Install Manager (DIM) it will have uninstalled 4.7 to install 4.5.
You cannot have both versions on the same computer anyway, unless one is 32 bit and the other 64 bit, that should work.
I disagree a bit with you, JimmyC_2009. While obviously 4.6 and 4.7 are more advanced than 4.5, if you want to test products, having previous versions is handy. BUT, as you said, it is not possible to run two DS-es on the same machine. My recommendation is: backup 4.5 as you won't be able to download it later as new versions come out, then uninstall it and install 4.7 to have the latest version. Then you launch it normally (if you created a shortcut icon, use it, if not, go to where you installed it... you know, a normal programme).
I beg to differ, see the page http://www.daz3d.com/daz-studio-4-5-sdk, it says 4.7 is a requirement for 4.5, I just can't find any way to launch 4.5, it is not made clear or maybe I have an error, I am clueless!

Whenever the main program is updated, seems to be a store software thing to automatically claim 'all' D/S products then require the latest edition [whether or not they do].
The required program to run the SDK on is in your Product Library, it is 4.5.0.114.
At least, that's what is in my Product Library.
Stuff made is supposed to work in this and more up-to-date editions although the installers for plugins sold in the store often will not work on this and later editions, but only the edition available at time of purchase and then later editions as/if/when one updates the plugin installers.
AFAIK one can safely run as many editions of D/S as one has computers for. One can run D/S3 and 4 on the same computer. But only one 3 and one 4 ... I haven't tried mixing 'n matching the dot numbers between 32 and 64 bit. I have found that while one can run 3 and 4, the content folders and such can look a little strange.
When you have installed the 4.5 edition, if you then install the 4.7 edition, 4.5 will be removed.
...
edit: btw - unless you're needing this for the scripting, there really were some significant improvements made and going with 4.7 would be better.

SDK 4.5+ is for developers are you sure you really need it. It is not necessary if you just want to use DS
From the store page The DAZ Studio SDK is a free C++ software development platform that provides a very tightly integrated, fully object-oriented interface for manipulating and extending DAZ Studio at all levels. It provides developers with the ability to add new functionality, interfaces, scene components, render engines, file I/O and much more, including the ability to integrate new components into the native file structure. The SDK also enables developers to load DAZ Studio with full functionality from other applications making it possible to directly import/export data as well as host live DAZ Studio content in other applications. Its versatility and power allows developers to utilize DAZ Studio in a manner that is tailored to developers' needs. It includes extensive API documentation and sample plug-ins to help get developers started in the creation of new DAZ Studio components.
Very few of us actually use SDK 4.5+ to be honest. It is really not something for New Users, as I said it is a Developers Tool, so unless you are hoping to develop a plugin for DAZ Studio you won't find any need for it.
Well, I would sure like to launch it just so I can see for myself.
It isn't something that you can 'launch'.
From the Product Page :
C++ Headers & Libraries - The core essentials necessary for developing new plug-ins and extensions to DAZ Studio.
It is sample code and libraries for people who want to write plugins for DAZ Studio. To use DAZ Studio 4.7, you do not need this, why do you think that you need it?
Well, I would sure like to launch it just so I can see for myself.
As I recall the actual develop tools are "inside" the program and/or found in the program folders. The nice detailed information list I had was lost in the last forum.
IF you're meaning to launch just the D/S4.5, it is wherever you installed it to. DIM doesn't install this.
if you have the SDK installed its not a separate program it adds functionality and library's to DAZ studio, and you access the features within DAZ Studio.
You don't. You use the SDK and a C++ compiler (the Microsoft one for WIndows, or the built in mac tools for Mac) to write code for plugins. Your compiler then uses the headers and your own code to build a plug-in for your chosen platform that can be added to DAZ Studio. Unless you are a C++ developer there's nothing you can do with the SDK.

Please tell me how to access the features. You are the only person who thinks it can be done lol.

however, as Richard has told you

I do not have the SDK installed any more (have not looked at it since DS3) as any editing of files that I do I use a text editor (I just have to clean up my created files) I never have to compile files as I don't create plug-ins.
If you are new stick to the basic program as the SDK is very advanced that even most of us PA (published Artists/ content providers) don't mess with it.
OK I appreciate the responses and the patience. 4.7 is still running fine and I can see the daz studio 4.5+sdk showing up in the content library tab, it has 5 sub folders which are bin, docs, include, lib and samples. I still have not been able to launch anything from these folders, I haven't tried them all yet. Anyhow may as well tell you that I wrote a Thor comic book and I can't find an illustrator for my
un- PC creation, that is what drew me to daz3d. I want to create a Thor who is a blend of Jack Kirby's and more traditional concepts. It has to be original enough to muster copyright protection. Anyhow I have been glued in front of the computer working on a Thor guy and his friends, I don't have much money to spend, and I am learning daz3d from scratch the hard way, I didn't even know what sdk meant when I downloaded it, I thought I was getting daz3d 4.5 with extra creator tools, ha. Ted
There's something like 183 mb of documents that came with the plugin. ? why would you be trying to launch them in D/S? Go to the folder and open them in a browser like any other .html doc.
Okay now, going by your last posts, you do NOT need SDK nor in fact the 4.5 that came with it. You can certainly keep any content that may or not have been installed with it. When 4.7 overwrites the 4.5 it will not remove content.
With 4.7, you can load Genesis, G2M and/or G2F and morph them to look differently. And yes one can certainly render all kinds of images for books/cartoons/etc. If you need an image editor, GIMP is free and very popular. If you need a modeling program, quirks aside, Hexagon is sold here. The one big plus item for having Hexagon is for making morphs as it has a bridge between the 2 programs.
There is a lot of content available for free BUT not all free content can be used commercially OR may have other restrictions ... look for and read the "readme" files. [they normally open in a text editor].
In searching for content for use with say 'Genesis' ... narrow the search for items that say they'll work on Genesis. [not V4 for eg.] There are conversions utilities and such, but for just starting out - it would be easier [less complicated] to stay with the newer figures.
Before going on a shopping spree, it really does pay to join the PC club as the prices are then so much lower. Until then, one can pre-shop by putting items of items to the "wish-list". [easier to find them later]
I think Neil is thinking of the DAZ Studio 3 Scripting Development Kits, not the SDK. The scripting kit did add a pluging, the ScriptIDE pane, and provided docs for function calls for scripts the way the full SDK does for C++. In DS 4 the Script IDE is in the base application, and theer isn't yet a full, downloadable set of function definitions (the DS3 kit is still available, which helps for a lot of things, and theer are samples on the documentation wiki). But even scripting isn't something you really need to use DS.

Thank you for the clarification Richard, as I don't use these tools I am not fully sure what they do.

It is not recommended that you have 2 versions of DS 4+ on the same computer.
4.5 is an older version.

Perhaps if you can tell me the name of the launch file I can find it with search.

The best I could do so far, still have not spent money but I need to. Young Thor with his girl Philly, (short for Phyllis).
A couple more.
