Help on The Kids 4

Hi,

I just purchased the product The Kids 4 Base.
But I miss the new character. All the other base characters comming with DAZ are automatically (by DIM) stored under .../My Library/People/... And under Genesis/Characters there are still only Male, Female, Basic Child, YT Justin and YT Julie. I somehow expected the Kids 4 to be in that location too. :-S
Only the "Puppeteer Presets" were installed under .../My Library/People/TheKids4.

Once again: I didn't manipulate the paths. All originally installed using DIM.

OK - under the Poser Library I find a Kids4 object. Clicking on it generates a very small baby-like toddler. But this has got nothing to do with the nice Kid shown in the promos. And there aren't any morphs for it like the "Basic Child"-Parameter to get in different size (ages).

I allready had a look for the Kids 4 Morphs++. But there a comparable morph isn't listed either. >:(

    Are you looking iin the Poser formats section.

    as I told you, in the poser section I only found under DAZ People, as I see now, a script generating a not even 3 feet high toddler-like child.
    That is called The Kids 4.
    But none of the K4 Basic Wear, nor the Duke hair can be fit to it. Nothing works on it.

    That is very strange. Under the figures you should have "The Kids 4" and "The Kids 4 Chibi"

    Toddler is a morph for the K4 figure, not a separate figure.

    yes of cause, as I allready stated: Under the Poser Library I find under Figures/DAZ People that script generating that toddler you showed.
    But then you can't apply any of the K4 Basic Wear nor the Duke Hair, which is announced as fitting for the Kids 4, too.

    But I'm using DAZ 4.7, not Poser.
    Under the DAZ People, where I have all the other Figures, like G1, G2, YT-J, ... there isn't any Kids4.
    I mean, even the Genesis basic child is using the Kids4 UVs.

    under the Genesis section I only find the kids 4 puppeteer preset. Where is the Kid4 character?

    Everything installed with its original installers !!

    Did you buy K4 Basicwear and Duke Hair, or are you trying to use the Genesis versions of these products that are bundled free with DAZ Studio? Kids 4 is a pre-Genesis figure, so clothing and hair made for Genesis will not work with Kids 4. You can probably get the hair to work by parenting it to K4's head and adjusting the fit manually, but it will take some effort.

    Hi Scott,

    puh, what a confusion.
    When I see the products K4 Basic Wear und Duke Hair, of cause everyone assumes that this is the same, what is included in the DAZ starter bundle. Why double different ??

    And yes, I tried to adjust it. But what ever you try to adjust these's still some amount of hair floating around the shoulders.

    So as a summary:
    The only use out of it is the possibility to use the Kids' skin (UVs) on other characters supporting the K4 UV set.

    And why isn't the Kids 4 appearing as a DAZ character under .../My Library/People/... as all the other characters do?

    Kids 4 is a 4th generation figure not a 5th generation Genesis figure or 6th generation Genesis 2 figure. 4th generation figure are primarily Poser figures that DAZ Studio can also use. Stuff designed for the newer generation figures will not work on it. You may want to see about returning it for a refund then check out zev0's Growing Up products.

    Because it's in Poser format, like all Generation 4 figures.
    Figures released before Genesis were provided in Poser format, which could be used by both DS and Poser.
    Genesis was the first figure using TriAx rigging, which isn't supported by the poser file format, so it was provided in DS format and you need the DSON importer to use it in Poser.

    The K4 basic wear and Duke hair provided with DS are a refit of the K4 items for use with Genesis, they're not the same as the original products.

    Yeah, K4 and Genesis are two entirely different figures. Genesis can use K4 items as it has an autofit available, but Genesis 2 cannot by default.

    Since it's a Generation 4 figure, newer Genesis clothing, which uses weight mapping technology, isn't backwards compatible with the figure. They're very different in the way they're rigged and in the way the clothing inherits the morphs of the figure. There are plenty of older K4 items which will work perfectly fine on the K4 figure though, so all is not lost. It does, however, mean purchasing items specifically for that figure.

    Also, being of the older generation, you're generally limited in terms of shaping morphs. Unlike Genesis, older Gen4 clothing won't follow the model, so any adjustments need to be done manually. It's one of the benefits of using the newer stuff.
