A few questions about Daz and the store
I am very new to DAZ, and I would like to buy stuff from the store, but I am not sure about few things.
1. Can Genesis products be used on Genesis 2 products, and vise versa?
2. Take this product for example: https://www.daz3d.com/troll-for-genesis it says it comes with "Custom Troll Shape for Genesis" does that mean I get to tweak it with sliders?
3. Say I bought the prev item and this item: https://www.daz3d.com/the-forest-king can I combine features from both of those to make something new?

It took me a while to figure out what all the different terms meant Genesis/Gen2, V6, M5, etc... basically it's stages of the different model generations, Genesis is the 5th generation and Genesis 2 is the 6th. Most outfits/morphs work up or down one generation automatically, there are ways to make older/newer clothes & morphs fit but it takes some know how to figure out the work arounds. There are also resource products in the store that help with automatically configuration.
They used to have a compatibility matrix under the help menu on the main page but since they've changed the site I'm not sure where it went - I'll keep looking for it though I found it immensely helpful!
As for your specific questions:
1. Yes but you'll have to manually adjust a few things like poke through and various other collisions
2. Yes!
3. I have the troll but I don't have the forest king - to the best of my knowledge there will be a slider for both that you can pump up the volume on overall features/characteristics for each and even mix several together or go into the Editor and adjust specific ones individually (more of a troll nose & eyebrows with forest king ears & mouth, etc)
I hope this helps, cheers!
EDIT:
Here's the Compatibility Matrix

MORPHS HAIR, Clothing & PROPS TEXTURES CHARACTERS POSES
Yes! Thank you that information is very helpful!
So, basically what it sounds like is that I can use morphs from say, 2 or more different packages and apply them to my characters as I please.
So maybe I would like to do the eyes from one package and the ears from another package and the mouth from a 3rd package, that is very doable it sounds like! (Correct me if I am wrong)
@chohole it looks like the only figures that I have are what come in "Genesis Starter Essentials" and "Genesis 2 Male/Female Starter Essentials", so that would include:
* Genesis
* Basic Child
* Basic Male
* Basic Female
* Genesis 2 Male
* Genesis 2 Female
Yep I've purchased a LOT of characters and packages so when I go into my editor I have quite a bit of different options to choose from ON TOP of the basic ones that came pre loaded.
I'm still new myself, but I can tell you even if you find something isn't showing up for you chances are there's a work around, it just might take some digging!
For example I have also purchased quite a few characters from Renderosity.com most of the artists over there use V4. There may be an easier way but so far what I've been doing (that works really well) is load V4 and all the morphs/poses/textures/wardrobe from the package I want to use then go to File>Save As and save each one separately as a material, wardrobe, pose, and shaping preset. I don't use character because it just doesn't seem to work quite right for me - but again maybe I'm just using it wrong!
Then I open a new document, load V6 then go under my content manager and find each of the settings I saved and add them to V6. I like G2 best because it's the newest and obviously has the best possible adjustment features. The only tweak I have to make is under the surface editor tab on her skin I change the UV set to V4.
Bottom line - go for it, even if it doesn't work out the way you were hoping you'll most likely use some or all of the features in other ways you never would have thought of unless you own the product and are able to experiment & see all that it can do!
You should also have Genesis 2 starter essentials, which has 2 figures. Genesis 2 female and Genesis 2 male
Yes, I missed those, and updated the post.
So, I would have to buy "Victoria x", "Freak x", etc. for some products I noticed in order for them to work...
Yes, but I would recommend that first you bought some morphs, as the figures are very basic with out morphs added.
If you're thinking about buying figures hold out for sales - and definitely consider becoming a PC+ member. I never buy anything full price anymore, whenever I did it almost always went on sale a few days later. The DAZ store has new sales every day and TONS of benefits for PC members, I don't regret it at all. I snagged both the Pro Bundles for The Girl and Lilith for practically a steal. I also try to buy any and all bundle specials they put together (most are usually available for only a limited time) I didn't buy the troll it came with the Genesis Starter Bundle it's 30% off now which is still a good deal, but I try to hold out for 58%+ Even if stopped now & never bought another thing (which I know I won't) I have more content than I'll ever use!
Thanks for your replies!
It really helps me out!
