How does the Whole G8 vs G8.1 product work, which should you start with in the First place?

Ive noticed that some products like clothes are and Expressions and stuff are for G8.1 only but most things are for G8. ..So who in their right mind would start using G8.1? i don't understand . I mean i'm gonna start making characters and custom characters and they will be from base G8  not G8.1, am i doing something wrong?  When exactly do you use G8.1  vs G8?

G8 is older, so most stuff is made for it because G8.1 didn't exist. G8.1 offers a few minor improvements in the materials and rigging, but it uses largely the same geometry as G8, so many G8 products work with it.

Basically, use G8.1 if you want the advanced features detailed on its promo page. Otherwise, invest in G8 first.

Genesis 8.1 is a collection of tweaks, most of which work on Genesis 8 too 9and vice versa). As delivered 8.1 deos not load the standard Genesis 8 expressions pack, and so products which need that do not function, but it is possible to change that. Genesis 8.1 does have changed surface groups, and changed UVs to take advantage available, so some materials presets won't apply directly and some Genesis 8.1 maps won't work on 8.
