how to use rigid follower

I see that some jewelry like navel piercings that use rigid followers (if that's the right term) stay properly in position regardless of the character pose, unlike others that are simply parented and have to be adjusted after every pose.  If I have an old prop w/o rigid follow, how do I set that up?  I tried parenting the prop to another item that has a rigid follower but that doesn't work.  I'm mostly concerned with G8F at this point.  Thanks.
