Completely new to DAZ 3D and very confused about software packages
Hi all,
First off, I'm a complete novice when it comes to 3D rendering (or even any kind of computer art), so please bear with me if I sound like an idiot - its because when it comes to this stuff, I am one!
I just installed DAZ 3D yesterday and have been playing around with it, getting comfortable, using the base Genesis 2 models that come with it etc. My goal is to ultimately be able to produce some erotic art. I've read quite a few guides and manuals, but they're all technical and nothing has really covered the following area that is really confusing me:
So, I have the base Genesis 2 starter models already - that much I get. Where I'm not so clear on is what I need next. Obviously I need a package that will give me some male and female genitalia (including the anus - not very realistic without it), nipples, skins... that kind of thing. Does anyone know where I should start with all this please?
It seems maybe I need "Shape Shift for Genesis 2 Female and V6" but are the gens any good in that and do they contain the anus?
Then I guess I need something like Olympia 6 or Victoria 6 as well? Is this where I get textures etc?
I would then assume I need some face morphing software...
As you can see, I'm very confused. Any advice would be much appreciated!
Thanks

As you say, when you download Daz Studio you do get the basic Genesis and Genesis 2 figures.
To get the add-ons you require you will need to now purchase one of the Pro bundles. If you want to use G2F then that would be V6 pro
http://www.daz3d.com/victoria-6-pro-bundle or one of the other pro bundles with 6 in them. The genitalia only come with teh Pro packages
G2M will be this one http://www.daz3d.com/michael-6-pro-bundle
If you decide to use the original Genesis, then you want the Victoria 5 pro etc.
Also you will indeed need the morphs http://www.daz3d.com/genesis-2-female-morphs-bundle (V6 etc)
http://www.daz3d.com/genesis-2-male-s-morphs-bundle (M6 etc)
or http://www.daz3d.com/genesis-evolution-morph-bundle (V5 etc)
Thank you for the quick response!
So are you saying that I don't need “Shape Shift for Genesis 2 Female and V6” because the genitalia are already included in the V6 Pro bundles? Thats including the anus, I assume? (sorry to be crude, but I can't think of any other way to ask).
Why would one decide to use Genesis when Genesis 2 is available? Isn't Genesis 2 an upgrade of Genesis?
They don't contain the anus.

What you get on the DAZ website here has no "iternal" parts, just external, and is not usable for more detailed erotica.
The genital height in the shape shift basically just moves/resizes the plane where the female gen is located.

Ah ha! I suspected as much. Thanks for confirming that.
So am I misreading your post, or are you recommending http://www.daz3d.com/genesis-2-female-body-morphs as a better option?
If you need an anus I am afraid you will need to look at other sites, there's nothing here that will provide that. But yes, for geenral body shaping the body morphs (and probably the head morphs) are the starting point, with other products providing additional options.
Excellent - thats all I needed to know. Thanks very much.
If you look at the other sites you may find that Victoria 4 still has the most products of that nature for her as she has been around for quite awhile. The other advantage for her is here at DAZ you can get her morphs++ as part of her pro bundle. She has numerous other products such as additional breast morphs, lingerie etc. here and at other stores.
It does indeed. Is Victoria 4 not outdated now though? I mean, whats the main difference between V4 and V5 & 6 - I automatically assumed the latter were better...
Victoria 4 is a stand alone figure which uses the older legacy rigging system.
Victoria 5 is a morph of Genesis (original) and uses TriAx weight mapping
Victoria 6 is a morph of Genesis 2 Female and is also TriAx rigged.
This thread will tell you more : http://www.daz3d.com/forums/discussion/24257/
Thanks for the info. I think I'm up to speed now on what it all means.
Still can't decide whether to use V4.2 or V6 though... and looking at other threads it looks like I'm not alone. I'll have to give this one some thought.
You should not compare V4 and V6. Victoria 4.2 is the Base figure for all 4th generation female figures. Genesis 2 Female (G2F) is the Base figure for all 6th generation female figures. Victoria 6 is a morph of G2F so would be more comparable to say Stephanie 4 which is a morph of V4.2 (not comparable as in shape but as in application).
Can I ask - what is the significance of these different characters, such as Victoria 6, Giselle 6, Aiko 6 etc? I don't quite understand the differences they're offering.
Does choosing one over the other lock you into anything design-wise? For instance, if I choose to go with Giselle 6 because I like the faces, will all of my creations have to be very thin, or is it still possible to change their proportions?
I guess what I'm asking in a nutshell is - do these character morphs change the limits of the parameters that you can work with?
This may help
http://www.daz3d.com/compatibility-matrix
You can mix and match, the characters are packages of morphs, usually a body and a head, plus a UV map to avoid stretching on that shape and a texture set. You can use less than 100% of the morph, mix it with other morphs, use another texture - it's entirely up to you.
Ah, I see. So I could have a Giselle 6 head with an Aiko 6 body. Excellent - thank you for clearing that up for me.
But bear in mind only pro bundles of adult shapes have gens. So buying Giselle 6 Pro Bundle, Teen Josie 6 Pro Bundle or Aiko 6 Pro Bundle as well as Teen Jayden 6 Pro Bundle won't get you what you want. There's the other Rendo that should be of most interest to you...
Hi, thanks - yes I realise this. I'm going to use another compatible package from another site for that. As long as Giselle and Aiko have nipples(?), then thats fine. I want the 'fantasy elf' look.
Rendo?
Rendo = Renderosity, another store where you can find content for DS and Poser.
The other Rendo = Renderotica, which is also a content marketplace but with more "oriented" content, and probably a good place to search for the parts you need.
Thanks, I wasn't aware of Renderosity.
So am I right to assume that Giselle 6 and Aiko 6 models do at least have nipples?
Aiko 6 definitely has nipples, on the texture that comes with her, it is called Aiko 6 All MAT.DUF, and can be found in the Genesis 2 Female > Materials > Aiko 6 folder.
I don't have Giselle 6, but I am sure that it will be the same.
Cool - thanks man!
I'm having a hard time deciding what to go for. I keep flip-flopping between Victoria 6, Giselle 6 and Aiko 6 - they all seem to produce some pretty stunning results. So hard to choose!
Is it true that Genesis 2 faces are more expressive than model 4 faces?
That's hard to say definitively, but certainly the G2 figures are expressive.
--------------------------------
On your earlier question, about nipples, almost all adult textures will have them; to add the shape you probably do need the G2F body morphs however.
Thats great, thanks!
I'm actually using Giselle 6 now and getting some great results. Can anyone please point me in the direction of some good morphing tools/bundles for creating custom facial expressions? It doesn't look like the http://www.daz3d.com/genesis-2-female-morphs-bundle bundle can handle that sort of thing, but I can't seem to find a package that can.
I'm talking things like closing eyelids, raising/lowering eyebrows, manipulating the lips & mouth, etc
Expression morphs are on the base - they are on the head, however, as they are treated as pose controls (being dynamic) rather than shaping controls.
Oh wow - so they are! Didn't notice that. Thank you very much for the pointer - you're a saint.
