Oddity With My First Render

Still in extremely early days of figuring Daz out and had a pop at my first render this evening.  Overall I'm pretty pleased with how it came out, plenty to work on obviously, but I'll take it considering I'd never done any of this a week ago.  Happy to take any tips from anyone that has them, appreciate there's probably a lot to fix though and this render was really just a test to see how the face came out and how long it took.  In particular, if anyone knows what's causing those cyborg-style forehead panels I'd be very interested.  I have no idea what it could be.  They don't appear in the texture shaded view, only the iRay preview (and actual render, obviously).  This is a Genesis 8 female; I have used Skin Builder 8 on it, I'm wondering if that might have caused it somehow.

I am going to take a wild guess and say that the skull cap is showing through the skull (assuming the hair you used has one. Try rendering with the hair off and see if that removes the patches. That way you can at least rule out the hair one way or the other. If it is the skull cap you can adjust its size in the parameters tab. I hope this helps.

I have had this quite some times as well. I would suggest the following:

    • select the hair
    • in the "Shaping" tab, locate "Adjust Head Size" and modify that one (+/- 5 to 10% should do)

This should fix the issue with the hair. Btw. if you use "Smooth Shaded" in your viewport, you can already locate such issues before you start a render.

  • Ah, thanks so much, guys.  That was exactly the issue.  Tweaked the scale of the hair to 99.8% and problem solved!
