All New Hairstyles are Crashing DAZ Studio

I've recently purchased multiple new hairstyles that I cannot get to work. Hairstyles used to show up in renders and IRAY previews by default but with these newest hairstyles I have to actually activate them to appear by clicking an option which always causes Daz Studio to crash. I never had this problem before and I've been using this program for years.  All of my older hairstyles still work. What suddenly changed and why won't any of these new hairstyles work? I'm currently using version 4.15, my drivers are up to date, and the latest hairstyle I can't get to work is DarlingX hair. I've even tried adjusting the PS numbers and that made no difference.

I've never heard of that. Can you show a screenshot of it in action? Does it have a name?

Are these perhaps dForce hair? Even if they don't appear in the preview, or not fully, they should appear in render - though some of them require simulation to assume their proper shape.

  • Photo 1 is what I start with, then Photo 2 is the preview where the hair doesn't appear. It looks like I have to select this option in picture 3 but whenever I do the program crashes.

Do an actual render, rather than using the nVidia Iray drawstyle.

  • I've tried rendering a couple times now and everything just freezes up. At least as far as this hairstyle, It's just too much for my computer to handle. It's not even that old.

I don't own this product, but dForce hair, especially long dForce hair puts a strain on system RAM.  How much RAM do you have installed?  Also, there are presets for different quality settings.  Have you had any luck with the low quality setting?

Go into line tesselation in the parameters tab if it's dForce hair, and there'll be two options, turn the top one to two and it'll show up in your iray preview mode. To make it less stressful to the computer, go in the surface tab and turn down the PR hairs (it's the second one in the list). If you look up desert hair in the forums from the common section, the PA talks about the PR hair thing more in depth, it works.

  • I have 16GB RAM. I've tried the lower quality settings and it doesn't crash the program but it does say there was an error in rendering and cancels the render. I also tried changing the line tesselation and that makes it show up in the preview but takes it down to just a few strands of hair. The PR hairs are already set to 0 by default unless you mean to go into the negative.

Just curious, what graphics card are you using?
