Some help with posing

I think I may be overthinking and almost be there. But for "Free posing" for something like the succubus add-ons 'tail' and for general character posing itself. I have found especially for the tail, the second I try moving any part of it the thing just whips around like it is alive, is it possible to lock certain parts of it in place? like the proceeding segments and only manipulate the segments after? The sliders just do not give fin enough control nor do the little icon ball sliders, sometimes you need to free drag, but when I do that, it goes crazy.

The same happens free posing body parts, can you lock parts of the figure into space and only manipulate those below that "lock"?

I am trying to wrap it around an arm and having little luck even getting close without it whipping around like I have caught a snake.

Any tips or tricks would be appreciated. I have several figures this will help me with.

I've had some luck with pinning. While I don't think it works that well on low segment items like arms or legs, it does work pretty well for exactly what you describe with things like vines (which is what I used it on)

When you select an item, in the main viewing window you see the bracket around the piece selected. You have the 3 lines with triangles on the ends, a cube right blow the triangle and a curved line between them. Anyways, in that area, you should see a thumb-tack. Click that and it will turn purple. What that does (supposedly) is keep that segment at that transition (x,y,z coordinates) However, I did find if you tug on an adjoining piece hard enough, the pinned segment will move.

Ahh perfect, that will work well for Cthulu and the tail among other things, make it much easier for fine adjustments. Might try it for limbs, though at least they can be fine tuned pretty well with sliders and transitions when tweaking poses at least. Thank you.

Once I have finished churning out my 11 renders for LDP, I will pop back into that scene to give it a try :)
