I need some tips on eyeballs and shades please

I am trying to create a glowing eyed monster in a very dark scene. I thought about putting a red gummy shader on the eyeballs of the g2m figure im working with. That all went fine but I cant get the eyeballs to be transparent enough for the amount of glow that I want. I have point light inside the character's head so they are right behind the eyeballs. I tried turning down the opacity of the whole eyeball, but it didn't work how I wanted. It just makes the individual parts of the eye (pupils ect) visible again. What do I need to fiddle with to to make the light travel further through the gummy eyeball (I think that's what I want to do). Below are the links to the 2 products I am using. -Thanks

Try adding UberAreaLight to the eye? That would make the eyeball both cast light and give the appearance of being lit themselves, like a frosted lightbulb.
Here are a couple additional products that might be worth a look:
DA Glowing Eyes
Project Eyeris - Subsurface Expansion
And this tutorial might be useful as well, though it's not exactly the effect you're going for: http://www.daz3d.com/forums/viewreply/86281/
