Menu Bar Favorites Script Screw UP??? SERIOUSLY DAZ?
This has me absolutely ticked.
So i had an issue with the parameters tab where the tabs properties selection button was being hid no matter how i slid out the devider to get to it. so i went into the workspace to try and fix this by selecting a differnt setup. and it fixed it but the menu tab got rid of my Script and Custom/Favorites quick selections in the menu bar. i mean really, WTF? so i hit F3 and yes they are still there but NOT in the custom folders i placed them all in. I MEAN REALLY DAZ? Why the F did this have to happen. do you realize it took me days and hours to get these set up in a folder that is specific to the scenes i am creating.
And to top it off, I cannot MOVE them from the Custom folder they are in to the right side or ADD them back to the menu bar.....@$@%@^#$%^@%@$#% and yes that is me cursing that this had to happen. There should be NO REASON why the menu bar resets and DELETES people presets. NO FRIGGIN REASON AT ALL.
I have a huge library and this is why i use the quick create tool for assest, as i spent DAYS and COUNTLESS HOURS tediously creating these subfolders with all the assests.
The only way i was able to get the Script and Favoritres to show back up was to create a new asset and then it showed up in the menu bar like they never existed. I CANT MOVE the ones i created before the F-up that are NOW bundled into one flolder as CUSTOM in the Customize (F3) folder. AS WELL AS, NOT IN THE FOLDERS I PLACED THEM IN.
There had better be a quick solution to this.

you have a new folder which is accessed right? and you can still reach the old folder via a pain in the*** but its there. how about select all in the original folder copy paste all to the new folder leaving the original intact (it wastes storage but may solve the issue) if the original is intact any exports which need the original address will find those to use.
The menus are part of the layout, if you reload the whole layout then it will do as you told it and load that version of the menu tree. If you had saved the layout you can reload the emnus from that without reloading the panes - the Import button at the bottom of Window>Workspace>Customise. If not, but you run back ups or fiel version tracking, you may be able to recover your menus by going to
%AppData%/daz 3d/Studio4/
(assuming this is the general release) and restoring an older version of the menus.dsx file.
You cannot copy and paste anything. you cant even drag the folder on the left tot he right, but can drag them individually, IONE BY ONE amd i have hundreds of sorted content to easily go through now its all in one folder i cant even drag across to atleast get to them all quickly....
DAZ DEV's this is absolutely unacceptable.
WHY would it delete the presets (actions) i created just becuase i changed the layout. There is no WARNING? It would have been great to recent a pop up stating this will erase all your presets if you change layouts. I never needed to save the layout or change it but i will now after i have to fix what should not have happened int he first place.
DAZ DEV's, DO YOU REALIZE how many hours and days it took me to make these presets? I know your answer would be it's your fault. That's BS and not a reasonible solution to something that again should have never happened. You should have a popup that notifies the user that chaging the layout will delete your favorits and script folder they created amd remember to back up or save the preset before preceeding. OR better yet have daz auto save presets to be able the user to ROLL BACK if so desired.
DEV's DO SOMETHING ABOUT THIS. You have cost me DAYS of reworking this and money.
I would like to be contacted to make sure that this is taken seriously and not brushed under the rug.
Thank you.
This is a user to user forum, no Daz Dev's here.
Do you have a back up from which you could recover the previous version?
Nothing was deleted - you say yourself that they are still in the list of Custom Actions. You chnaged the layout, that changed the layout and so removed the previous menu structure. It's a painful lesson, but you do need to back up your data and whjen you customise the layout you should save it for future recovery.
Richard,
No disrespect, but that is a pathetic answer of stating the obvious. There is no way the user would know that this would delete the favorites and script menus. You seem the type that likes to point out obvious things that I already know and is not needed nor warranted. Do you not realize that yes it's a painful leason and i know this NOW, but there should have been no reason that this deleted anything the user created without some kind of warning. This is all i am trying to point out. the damge is already done.
DAZ should realize that most people dont read the full manual or this was never stated anyways. Like ive stated before, i have worked with DAZ for years and never needed a back up as i never knew that this would happen. No warning, no indication that this would remove them from the COUNTLESS, ORGANIZED folders i created.
ill have to drag EACH setting one by one, to a new folder on the right. Also, trying to move these folders are difficult once created. i tried to slide them down past the HELP menu but the script will not recognize the placement and places it instead in the help folder. Now the folder is in front of the FILE folder, which is annoying.
There is limited ability in this customize feature which makes it difficult to say the least.
My whole point here is to see if there was anyone else who might have had the same issue and to get the word out that this is a serious issue that should ahve never happened.
and PerttiA, really??? There are some that go here as well as well as DAZ staff, so again, really...
I can't agree with the should not have happened - the layout controls the UI, including the menus. A quicker way to populate the Scripts menu is certainly something you could feature request (e.g. multi-selecting items in the Customise dialogue) but I would suggest couching it in terms of usability, rather than addressing your particular situation here.
Really, really. Posting in the forum, other than maybe the sticked threads in Daz Studio discussion (which is where this post belongs) is about the least efficient way to get the devs' attention. They don't usually post outside there. Store people post in The Commons sometimes, but they're not "devs". And putting "screw UP???" in the subject line might not be the best way to go either. These aren't video game forums.
