Install manager not working

artofdawnartofdawn Posts: 0

Just submitted this as a helpdesk ticket since I couldn't find any solutions online, but I figured it wouldn't hurt to bring it up and see if anyone out there experienced a similar issue and solved it:

I recently changed computers. On my old system (Windows Vista 64-bit Home Premium) DAZ and the Install Manager worked fine, but on the new one (Windows 7 64-bit Home Premium) the Install Manager keeps closing whenever I try to download. I am able to launch it fine and log into my account and see all my purchased and free items for download, but it doesn't matter what I select or how much, as soon as I hit the 'start queue' button the IM window disappears. If I bring up Task Manager it still shows under the Processes tab and is taking up memory, but nothing more happens.

I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling everything DAZ related but it keeps happening. I was able to install Studio by manually downloading the application instead, but I have over 40 items waiting for download and so it's going to be a big pain manually adding everything, not to mention it seems like that will cause problems if I ever get IM working again.

I've tried closing down all the background programs I can think of that might cause issues, except Microsoft Security Essentials, but MSE never interfered on my old system. The only thing I have installed that wasn't on the old system is Adobe Creative Cloud, but I turned it off from running except when I need it.

Have a look at the DIM log file and see if it says anything. Start DIM, click on the Settings icon (upper right gear), and then hit the Show Log button.

Here's the latest log from me trying to download the "Add On For Zombie" pack I'd purchased. Others seem to be similar, just with different filenames depending on what I tried.

I notice that your download path doesn't start with the drive letter. If you change it to include the drive letter, does that solve the problem?

Click on the Settings icon again, then check the path on the Downloads tab. Change if needed.

I'll have a look when I get home. I assumed that the Download Path was omitting a drive letter because it was just a subset of the Application Data setting, but now that I'm looking at some other people's logs, yeah, maybe that's exactly the problem.

That did the trick! Weird, it had just somehow defaulted to not having a drive letter, even when I reinstalled.

    Thank you!

    Glad it worked.

  • Hello! The same thing is happening to me, but a little different. I just recently downloaded DAZ Instal Manager but every time I attempt to log in online, a white tab comes up and says "DAZ Install Manager Has Stopped Working". I can only sign In offline but I don't know what to do. No one will help me and really need it

  • 4GB of system memory is going to be very, possibly impossibly, limiting - though I don't think it would  explain the crashing. What security software are you running?

uggg same issue for me too. install manager works fine on my old Win8, but now my faster Win10 is not working. i installed several times.

The row that says "Cannot locate dzInstall.ini" doesn't seem to affect my Win8 install as the Win8 version runs fine.

Both Win8 and Win10 run the same Mcafee install and account.

i have followed the thread and ruled out those issues. any other ideas as the help support is on a lag of 4-6 weeks? Appreciate any help. thanks.

I just found this thread.  I am having this same problem on a brand new Windows 10.  DIM will not load up at all.  Whenever I try to login and start the app just vanishes.  no error message.  nothing.

I am only able to go in offline mode and I am able to start and stop CMS from within DIM.  I need this fixed desperately.  I bought this machine specifically for DAZ and have a big project I need to get working on.

Please attach the log, which should be in C:\Users\Your username\AppData\Roaming\DAZ 3D\InstallManager

What you can try, is resetting the database: in DS, click the hamburger menu on the Content Library pane - Content DB Maintenance - Reset Database. Quit DS, wait a min or so and try launching DIM again. If it works, then repeat the above process but instead of resetting the database, select Re-import Metadata.

Here's the log file from Install Manager. But I don't see anything indicating why it crashes when I try to login.

Hi.  Unfortunately resetting the DB and re-import meta had no affect.  DS still crash on loading a figure. I see a lot of warnings in the log.

@DoctorJellybean - I just did complete uninstall of everything again.  Followed all steps to ensure clean uninstall.  Then download fresh copy of DIM from my account on DAZ Store.  I checked the Windows event viewer to see what is happening when DIM fails to login and load.  See attached.

    Any ideas?

So to add further to my frustrations...I just installed DIM on an old Windows 10 laptop.  It worked fine.  I then tried to copy the entire folder with the LIBEAY32 onto my new box and see if it would work.  Nope.  Gives the same error.  I then tried to disconnect Wifi and run ethernet and tried again.  Still same problem.

Does anyone know how to fix this dll error?

  • DoctorJellybeanDoctorJellybean Posts: 8,340

Do you have any Anti-virus\malware apps? If so, try disabling them.

  • Geminii23Geminii23 Posts: 1,327

Only the built-in stuff with Windows 10.

  • DoctorJellybeanDoctorJellybean Posts: 8,340

Ok, one thing you can try. Open DIM in offline mode, click on the Settings gear icon and click on Basic Settings. Click on the path listed for Content Database Base. It should open a File Explorer window. Close DIM, make sure DS isn't running, and rename the ContentCluster folder (e.g. ContentCluster Old) in File Explorer. Start DIM again and try logging in. If that didn't work, you can rename it back to the original name.

Maybe you could create a new account, add that account to DIM and see if it works.

Ok. Problem solved.  Thanks you very much to @Worlds_Edge for helping me get this fixed.

I know we are not allowed to post files and what not, so the long and short of it is that there are two files that need to be replaced in the DIM folder. libeay32.dll and ssleay32.dll

Once those files were replaced I was able to login to DIM and am now installing the 5000+ items from my account.  I'm pretty sure DS will work after this as well.  Since the few people this is happening to seem to have the common factor of getting new laptops or desktops recently, I suspect this is going to be a bigger problem moving forward if DAZ doesn't address it soon.  It must be a conflict with a new driver or windows update.

Thanks, yep, that did it. Both dlls are part of an open ssl driver package. Funny, I had them already available in another directory of my Rad Studio compiler set :)
