Power supply question for RTX 3070

Hi all - I'm looking at a new computer with a RTX 3070 but I think the rig comes with only a 500 psu.  From what I've found, a 650 psu is considered minimum with the RTX 3070 or it will strain the system. Does anyone have this card and know if the 500 psu is actually insufficient for DS rendering?  I am not a gamer, I only use my comp for DS, photoshop, etc.

Thanks in advance for any insight.  :)

The 3000 series GPUs often have power spikes that are higher than previosu generatiosn GPUs.  I agree that for a 3070 GPU the 750 watt power supply shoudl be the minimum wattage used.

  • RTX30XX cards are 320-350W just for the card. the 500 PSU might run one but you'd be straining the 12v rail and the extra connector you need for the GPU may be another problem.

you can watch "Gamers Nexus" videos on youtube for pretty in depth testing on the new cards and power usage.

Thank you, everyone! I got an Alienware with an RTX 3090 with a 1000 psu. So far I'm loving it and no issues!

NICE! if you don't mind, where did you get it and what did it cost?

It's Alienware Aurora R11, bought it directly from Dell, upgraded to max.
