Fatal error, need help!

I've just switched from mac to pc, so my knowledge might not be that good.

Had it custom built, with great specs, mainly for Daz studio. Now it starts chrashing and I have no idea why.

A message pops up saying "a fatal error was encountered". I did some research on google, only thiing I found was that my drivers werent up to date, but they are.

I also disabled fallback to cpu and everything regarding cpu, but nothing helps. It just keeps crashing out of nowhere. Only when Iray preview is on though, not sure about real rendering, havent come that far yet.

Im on Ryzen 9 3900X and I have a RTX 3090 graphics card.

Has anyone ever encountered this error? How should I fix this?

If theres any other information you need, please ask!

thanks in advance,

Hilbert

Is the crashes related to Iray preview?

What does it say under render settings advanced - is your GPU listed there?

And does it crash even if you just try with a primitive?

  • thanks for your reply!

It is listed in advanced, however it says CUDA 0, not sure if thats ok?

Also Im positive that it works, because my scenes render like crazy (especially considering I was used to CPU rendering only.

Its also listed in the windows device manager under display adapters. And im running the latest studio driver from Nvidia.

Im testing preview with a cube now, problem is that i cant really force it. It just happens with no logical reason.

You should think the RTX 3090 can handle quite large scenes as well, so I dont really think that should be the problem.

It already crashes with a genesis figure, clothing item and a smoke prop. I dont believe that is too much..

Your hardware looks fine to me.

And it is right that your 3090 should be able to cope with fairly complex scenes.

Is it rightfully understood that it sometimes work and sometimes crashes? And that you don't have a consistent way to get it to crash?

When you are experiencing a crash, then try to look in the log, default path is Username/AppData/Roaming/Daz 3D/Studio4/log.txt and see what the latest entries are, i.e what DS was doing prior to crashing.

  • Yes that's absolutely right, actually it works like a beast, but then all of the sudden that message pops up and Daz closes down. Nothing saved, can all start over. And yes, i have no idea what causes it. It's out of nowhere.
next time when it happens I'll try the logfile, but i don't really understand that tbh.

  • I'm still not sure what's causing the problem, I copied the bottom lines of the view log where the error is stated.

Does anyone know what it means? And how to fix it?
