Combat Exoskeleton Suit Or Vehicle

Not sure if anyone's got plans for this, but a weaponised exoskeleton, along the lines of what was shown in 'Edge Of Tomorrow'?

I'm thinking someone could draw inspiration from that, the powerloader from 'Aliens' and the robotic suits from 'Avatar' to create something G1/G2M/G2F could move around hostile alien or toxic environments in. Mount a few guns on the hull/shoulders/arms (able to be hidden for civilian versions) and you've got yourself an articulated vehicle for infantry.

I'd like to see someone recreate the suit from Elysium. Personally though, I hope someone eventually creates an Armored Core type mecha for DAZ because the store is severely lacking in that department.

So long as it's not too humanoid; whenever I see the kind of stuff so prevalent in Japanese animations, I end up wondering why their supposed autonomous robots aren't just a guy in a suit. :) I know they're usually meant to imply the aesthetics of samurai armour, but it isn't very practical for genuine robotics.

Form should follow function and the kind of things shown in 'Pacific Rim' didn't make much practical sense. If it's designed to merely augment the human body, like the famous powerloader ('Aliens'), then something humanoid makes sense. Otherwise, the larger it gets, it should really be designed to look like a massive tank with lots of gun and turrets (either on caterpillar tracks or with multiple digitigrade legs for redundancy) or, if it needs limbs for whatever reason, then something multi-limbed and insectoid would probably be the way to go.

Pretty much. I'm not a fan of the sleek mechas that you seen in most anime either. The image I linked is pretty much what I believe a 'giant military grade mecha' should look like. That or the Mechwarrior style robots which are walking tanks. Kinda like this dudes design http://www.turbosquid.com/3d-models/warrior-3d-max/803794. It's more akin to the designs in Mechwarrior.

Yes! Looks very much like Cain, from 'Robocop 2'! The film wasn't brilliant, but I always loved that design...

It also showed up in an episode of RWBY. Which is funny because that makes two buyable products that I've seen in the series, the first being the giant spider mech from the Black trailer which is available here on DAZ.

I was just looking for something like this last night!

I'm also thinking akin to Avatar, Edge of tomorrow, Exo-squad, etc. Not as giant as mech-warrior mechs, but similar style slightly larger than humanoid size.

The most applicable I've seen in the store are:

    http://www.daz3d.com/mech-2012-enforcer
    http://www.daz3d.com/escort-scout
    http://www.daz3d.com/arachnoid
    http://www.daz3d.com/robot-rem

The last one's a bit of an odd design (the communications array part seems more like a basket), but still very nice to look at. As for the Arachnoid, my only regret with it is that the optional gun turret can't have doors folded over the top of it to open and close. Aside from that, it's a very nice large vehicle!

There's also a great robotic wasp, spider and mosquito available, if anyone wants them.

The enforcer is probably the closest thing as to what I was looking for, even it's teetering on pushing the height for what I'd like. The others are definitely a lot bigger than what I've got in mind.

For what it's worth, you can scale it up or down. :) You'll noticed that some people have scaled up Stonemason's fantastic-looking AT-Drone to gigantic size, too (which is also suitable for these needs). I haven't found a vehicle or figure for which the scaling option doesn't exist!

The Enforcer doesn't have a cockpit, which might have been what led you to assume it needs to stay at the huge default size. It's basically a robot which can be portrayed as autonomous or remotely controlled.

So, yes, if any of those appeal to your needs, just purchase them and alter the scale to whatever is required. The Enforcer is often expensive, but the visual quality is worth it. Wish Stonemason and DZ Fire made more robotics! Ant Farm is also starting to create some interesting ones.

Ahh, yes, that would be a problem with scenes using an open cockpit or showing the driver through the windshield. Scaling down wouldn't work because of those scenarios as well.

Fortunately at the moment it's not a pressing matter, but I am planning a sci-fi comic book and it would definitely be a must-need in the future.

Yep! But as I say, Enforcer doesn't have a cockpit, which means you can scale and rescale as you see fit. It's a beautifully realised piece of hardware. The only trouble is that, because there isn't much else like it, it's being increasingly used for a lot of projects. Putting unique combinations of shaders will give it a look someone else won't necessarily have tried, but the basic design would be replicated.

I'd really like for someone to create a modular robotics kit. A variety of different bodies, weapons and limbs which can be individually posed and then parented to one another.

Unfortunately, the FVCS and GVCS from Davo are gone (Powerfusion3d is open for support only), but if you have them, some of those weapons would be good.

So....I've decided to give this a shot
Here's the design I'm going to try an make in SketchUp:

And here's the lucky lady that gets to where the thing:

Alien Power Loader by Vanishingpoint at sharecg

Unfortunately, what you see for non-Mecha battlesuits is slick, futuristic, skin-tight stuff such as Xurge. The near-future, made-with-current-technology stuff like Edge of Tomorrow and Elysium doesn't exist.

Hence why we're in the "Product Suggestions" so maybe someday it can exist :) and thanks to AkoolPoptart we have a start!

Interesting. It'll need a lot of work on the hydraulics, joints and such, but a good initial start.

From the looks of it, you might find the modular designs from the old eighties cartoon, 'Centurions', of inspiration.

    http://fc04.deviantart.net/fs70/f/2012/036/e/f/efe71484fa0da653b561fef702860b44-d4ojltt.png
    http://fc03.deviantart.net/fs71/i/2010/354/c/e/the_centurions__movie_poster_by_applecorestudios-d35905l.jpg

They had various hard-points on the suit which were there to place various weapons and tools. If you made such a product, that would allow you and others to make expansions packs for it, with various smart-propped devices which could slot into the individual articulated joints at key sections.

From the looks of it, what you're making could do away with a hand-held rifle completely. Make it so that the forearms can have weapons/tools mounted on them. Shoulders, too, 'Predator'-style. That would leave the pilot's hands free for other tasks. Obviously, a jet-pack (with some sort of vectored-thrust exhaust for mobility) could then be added to the spine - which could double as a water-jet for underwater scenes.

It would also allow you to have one version as for weaponised combat, another for medical evacuation, another for construction and more.

Obviously, you'd have to also create some sort of vacuum-sealed, hardened shell for the pilot, if you were also then going to have a version for plunging to vast watery depths.

For the shell, you could leave that up to the individual user as I would probably do something like using the Force Fields for Genesis option.

I'm not sure that would be possible for those wanting a physical shell. Someone would have to be capable of modelling their own and, until Hexagon gets stabilised or Google's Sketch Up is able to export to Daz Studio, most people wouldn't have a user-friendly option to do that.

On the other hand, if one is included for outer space or deep sea renders, then you could simply hide it with opacity if you want a different method shown.

Just need to do the shoulders and that's about it.

Fixed 90% of all clippings and gaps. It is, for the most part, fully poseable.
