Can I load my Genesis 8 characters to the Genesis 8.1 figure and clothe them in Genesis 8 clothing etc?
Could I load that 8.1 into an existing scene, save the pose of ther 8, load it to the 8.1, position the 8.1 where the 8 is, delete the 8, reload the clothes, props etc and have the same scene? Albeit with better looking skin?
In other words, do I lose anything by using 8.1?
Only the expressions, right? A pity because I have tons of expressions, but in all other respects it's the same?

The most of my chars working with 8.1 and the same with clothing, hair and the most of the expressions works too ;)
For example the Kin Hair (https://www.daz3d.com/kin-character-and-dforce-kin-hair-for-genesis-8-males) doesn´t work with 8.1 but i hope they update the produkt
The update 8.1 is free so you can easy test it with your libery
Sounds positive, so thank you.
Haven't upgraded to 4.15 yet for the 8.1. A couple of things put me off.
But becoming inevitable now there are neat things coming out that are 8.1 only.
All the expressions can be made to work (as in, they appear in parameters tab and the dials will have an effect)
The installation/update of Genesis 8 Starter Essentials adds dummy/placeholder expressions in the G8.1 morph folders that prevent the G8 base expressions from loading.
These placeholder expressions can be found in "...\Data\DAZ 3D\Genesis 8\Female 8_1\Morphs\Daz 3D\Base Pose Head\" (255 files) and "...\Data\DAZ 3D\Genesis 8\Female 8_1\Morphs\Daz 3D\Expressions\" (24 files) - The same goes with male also "...\Data\DAZ 3D\Genesis 8\Male 8_1\Morphs\Daz 3D\Base Pose Head\" (255 files) and "...\Data\DAZ 3D\Genesis 8\Male 8_1\Morphs\Daz 3D\Expressions\" (24 files)
If you remove those placeholder files, the G8 base expressions appear in parameters tab working and the other G8 expressions that didn't work because they were looking for the G8 base expressions, start working too.
Ah, okay.
So this would be a way of using 4.15 without delving deeply into the 8.1 figures yet? I have no beef with 8.1. If they look better that's great. I just want a way to use all of my existing scenes/stuff in the same way as I did, until I start laying out enough to make a full 8.1 scene worthwhile.
I upgraded to 4.15 today and have been a little blindsided by it. I honestly thought I would be seeing Genesis 8.1 starter essentials - a whole new class of stuff that I could use or ignore at my convenience. It's not like that at all, is it? 8.1 is replacing 8.0 in situ. If I load up a G8 character now it is going to be a 8.1 character.
Which would explain why the first scene I loaded up had an off expression. Not crazy off, but not right either. Unless that is my imagination, but she doesn't look right to me.
I will try the placeholder thing and plonk those files somewhere safe for now.
Thank you.
Does the same go for the eyelashes do you know? i.e.
"...\Data\DAZ 3D\Genesis 8\Female 8_1\Morphs\Daz 3D\Eyelashes\"
I'm lost now... When you have DS 4.15 installed with the updated Genesis 8 Starter Eseentials, you will have two base figures in People\Genesis 8 Female\, "Genesis 8 Basic Female" and "Genesis 8.1 Basic Female"
The "Genesis 8 Basic Female" is your old G8F and works as always, the "Genesis 8.1 Basic Female" is the new base figure and if you load her, she will read all the installed G8F morphs and characters automatically, except for the G8F base expressions, because their loading has been blocked with the dummy/placeholder files in G8.1F morph directories.
Oh, yes. I see now.
All conveniently saved in "Genesis 8 Male Powerpose Templates". : ).
Got it. By shifting the placeholders out I can now use 8.1 with my (numerous) G8 expression dials.
Many thanks.
