How do I save customized figure WITH facial morphs?

Rufus CoppertopRufus Coppertop Posts: 173

I have a customized figure / character that I've managed to save and load with every morph and tweak intact.

The hair is fitted, the clothes work, the shoulders are wider, the facial shaping is right there.

I love Daz. It rocks.

BUT - I have no idea how I managed it.

I'm trying to save another modified version of the same character with slight changes and as far as I can tell, I'm doing everything correctly but when I load him, the facial morphs are gone.

The face always reverts to the base figure.

The clothes are there, the body morphs are there but the face morphs are not.

What am I doing wrong here?

  • Goto File>Save as>Shaping Preset (check what you want or uncheck what you don't want to include)

Okay, thanks for that. It worked.

Now I just need to know how to do that while including the clothes the character is wearing.

I managed it once - but how I did it still eludes me.

If you only want to save the clothing, you goto File>Save As > wearable(s) preset

If you want to save the figure and the clothing or any props or items on the scene goto File>Save As> Scene Subset (and choose the items you want to include in the scene subset.  IE if you only want the figure and the clothes and nothing else just check the figure and the clothes.... uncheck the cameras, lights etc.

Okay - again thanks. I appreciate the help.

I've managed with a bit of fiddling, to save a wearable - it seems to weird and counterintuitive that you have to select the figure in the Scene Window to make the garment appear in the Saving Window. But - that's how it is and yeah, it worked.

I still can't work out how to save a figure with facial morphs AND clothing though - even though I somehow fluked it recently.

Another way to save a character with clothing, hair, jewellery, morphs etc as a ready to drop in character is as a 'Scene Subset', that's a mini scene that can be dropped in from the library like a prop preserving all the character work you've done to get the character exactly as you want. Can have cameras, props etc all in the scene subset.

I tend to do that in preference to the other methods suggested so far, as there is no prospect of me distributing the character to anyone else.

As usual, there are many ways in DS to get very similar results through entirely different processes and you need to choose the one that suits your way of working best.

    Regards,

    Richard.

For some strange reason that actually worked --- THIS TIME --- in fact it half worked. One of the figures in a pair loaded perfectly, the other did not. The one that did was in a zeroed pose. I wonder if that's the explanation although in another one that works (by some strange fluke) the pose is not zeroed.

It's a weird Daz mystery I suppose. Maybe there'll be a light bulb moment in my future soon. Thanks for the suggestion.

When you save as scene subset, DS asks which frame you want to save. Make sure you want to save the frame(s). You may or may not have saved the correct frame(s).When you apply, did you check which frame you had the intended pose at.

I seem to have it sussed out nicely now. Many thanks to you and RichardandTreacy.

  • That's good to hear. I completely forgot about animations, as I never do them. I set up all my favourite characters that way, and just drop them in an image. Regards, Richard
