How Long are DAZ Items Available After Purchase?

After you've purchased DAZ items, how long do they remain available for download in your account info?

And are you limited to the number of downloads of the same item (let's say your computer crashed and you need to download the same purchased file again)?

So far they seem to be available for life (yours or the company’s, whichever comes first :-) ). With no current limit on how many times you download them.

Yes, your purchases will always be available to you, and that includes the 'purchase' of freebies from the DAZ 3D store.

You might not have access to all older versions of your software, I think they might sometimes update it to just the latest version number within a given major version, rather than leaving you with a whole pile of minor version number changes clogging up your purchase history. For example if I look at my account right now, I see DAZ Studio has only 4.6 Pro (which I think is probably 4.6.3.52), 4.5.1.56, and 3.1.2.32. I would not be able to get any of the versions earlier or inbetween, and would need to have saved those locally if for some obscure reason I actually wanted them.

If I remember correctly there might also be some really old freebies that I think are no longer available, perhaps because they were offered in a separate freebie portion of the website that no longer exists (rather than as a product that you "buy" for $0 that ends up in your purchase history the way they are currently being released.)

FYI, just as a policy in general it might be wise to keep your own backups of all software and downloads for everything you own from any company, rather than depending on others just in case anything unexpected ever happens on their end.

The freebies from the old freebie archive were never listed in your product library, so wouldn't not be saved anywhere but on your own computers. They didn't go through the store system at all.

All purchases you make remain in your account 'till Hell freezes over or DAZ closes - both unlikely. Still, backups are good for you and as it was said before, if you want different versions of DS - to test products, for instance - then you need to take care of them on your own.

Thanks for the feedback. I already have all my older DAZ products (dating back years in some cases) backed up on local and USB drives. I was more concerned with stuff I've purchased recently.

On a related note, I've recently come across this book advertised on Amazon:

    http://www.amazon.com/Figures-Characters-Avatars-Official-Beautiful/dp/1435461207/ref=cm_cr_pr_pb_t

As many of you vets probably know, this book comes with a CD containing an earlier (but reportedly full) version of Carrara as well as the "complete" M4 and V4s.

The obvious question then: are the authorization codes for Carrara and the models still valid, or is the included CD today no more than a paperweight?

You could send an inquiry to DAZ through the Help Desk.

CDs don't weigh enough to be paperweights, they do make nice clock dials though. The book isn't worth purchasing for the content disk as the content is out of date and can't receive updates from DAZ as the book was bought through Amazon.

As far as we know the serial numbers will still be valid. AS Cris says the best thing to do is contact CS and make sure, and to find out what further support you would get on the content included on the CD.
