A line on the neck under the chin?

What causes this line to appear, runs from ear to ear under the chin?

I just noticed the lines are also around the arms too and along the other places where the images line up.

The skin I am using is "Seven" for Holt 8 and I have put that skin on Callan's body shape.

It seems to always exhibit these lines... is there a way to edit the maps and fix this?

Is an update for this problem possible? It is really too bad because the artist(s) did a very excellent job with this skin otherwise.

I really dislike doing post work on my figures unless absolutely necessary.

  • Is this in a full render or a preview drawstyle?

Thanks for your help Richard. That is a full render but I stopped it before it got done.

  • Those are seams between the maps, @RexRed. You can try lowering the normal map value (on all the skin surfaces) and see if that gets rid of those.

It is weird becasue I did not have this before and I think something has thrown the geometry off, I am seeing it on all of my characters and it is only on one side.

I know this issue can happen sometimes with certain lights. Try getting rid of the lights and only using an HDR map. Do the lines still appear?

I tried adjusting the normal setting and that did not seem to do anything with hiding the line. I may not be doing it right.

I have isolated part of the problem.

I have the default HDRI loaded and when I shine the HDRI on one side the lines disappear on that side.

When i rotate the HDRI and shine it on the other side the lines disappear on that side and reappear on the other side.

The lines appear on the side of my figure in the shadow.

The figure in the light has no lines and the figure in the shade has lines.

The light is hiding the lines.

Does anyone know why this is happening?

    :)

All I did was rotate the HDRI

Okay, I figured more out thanks to FenixPhoenix suggestion.

It seems to happen with certain lights as suggested.

It happens with the default HDRI and some spotlights and I am not sure what other lights.

Why? I would like to know. :)

Most of the other HDRIs that I have tested so far it does not happen.

  • Indeed, I know it happens with spotlights especially but I haven't been able to find a solution either (apart from changing the lights). It's one of those DAZ mysteries, lol.

You were very helpful FenixPhoenix and at least there is a workaround.

    Thx :)

This is kind of disappointing that I can't use spotlights...

I need to test them out and figure out which ones are offending or if they are all that way.

There have been multiple threads about this issue in the forums over time, so you may find some useful info there. Here's one of the latest ones, wherein a possible solution is offered which you may want to check out: https://www.daz3d.com/forums/discussion/395541/seam-issue-came-up-before.

Yup, I had spectral rendering on, seam is gone, again, very helpful thank you FenixPhoenix!

Funny how you can use something for a long time and not notice subtle little things like this.

My pleasure, glad it worked out! I need to make a note for myself as well so I'll know how to fix it if I ever come across the issue again!

Okay, I am wondering if the spectral rendering causes this because the lights are shining through the head and illuminating the seam underneath on the back side of the image. I wonder if putting an opaque shell inside the figure would stop this from happening?

I don't know if it would get rid of the seams, but putting a shell inside will definitely change how your character looks, especially if the skin has high translucency. I did that for the Sci-Fi Tattoos set (https://www.daz3d.com/scifi-tattoos-for-genesis-8-males) and I had to dedicate a promo to show that adding the under shell would impact the skin color.
