Unable to apply textures to Toga

I just purchaced dForce Toga Outfit for Genesis 8 Male(s) https://www.daz3d.com/dforce-toga-outfit-for-genesis-8-males
I was able to apply both 3Delight and Iray textures to the arm bands, sandals, and shawl. When I tried to apply any of the four textures to the tunic, I got an error message. The textures are where they should be in Runtime\Textures. After looking at the error log, it appears the tunic was looking for information in the cloud. Here is a copy of the log file. If anyone can help me fix this, I would be very grateful.

That message means you're trying to use a hierarchical preset (ie a preset meant to be applied to a figure and several parented items) with the wrong item selected.
You're probably not supposed to apply those presets directly to the tunic.
The tunic doesn't really need a Hierarchical Materials preset, as there is nothing else to texture, but that is the way it is. The add-on textures have simple Material presets and work properly. You must at least parent the Tunic to a Genesis 8 Male figure to apply the materials. You can save out a new simple Material preset after loading the Hierarchical Material onto a Tunic worn by a Genesis 8 Male, one for each version (2 3DL and 2 Iray) if you like, so that you don't have to load a Genesis 8 Male figure first, or if you want to use it on, say, a Genesis 8.1 Male figure (have not tried that yet). Not having a root node, or changing the root node, invalidates the Hierarchy.
Leana - I was applying the toga textures from the materials folder to the toga.
NorthOf45 - Thank you for the explanation. I had originally fitted the tunic to a Genesis 3 character, then tried it unparented. After your explanation, I parented it to a G8M figure and it worked fine. This is the only item I have that works this way, hense my confussion. Anyway, I now know how to fix it for use on my Genesis 3 figures, so thanks again.
