One more question and I'll leave y'all alone for a while. when you import a wavefrornt object from Poser into Daz Studio how do you get it to import the material list along with the object? All I get is the object all grey scale. thanks again!!

Do you mean something that's just an .obj file, or is it a complete Poser figure or prop with matching textures and .cr2 or .pp2 files? Those can be loaded — not imported, it isn't the same thing — directly into DAZ|Studio using the Content Library tab. Do you have the Poser files in a proper Poser Runtime? Or is it just a single product installer?

No, just an .obj file, it loads a pz3 file just fine but if you save the fully textured model as a wavefront object it loads but has no textures.

In poser is it textured using the mat room, or with Jpg textures?

If it using nodes in the mat room, then that will not transfer to DS, as shaders sre set up differently in the 2 programs.

There are a few tricky little gotchas when you import an .obj (as opposed to simply loading a pre-prepared figure or prop). In the Import dialog, did you click on the tickbox at the bottom to read the .mtl file? Come to think of it, is there a .mtl file to match the .obj file? That's where all the details of colours and textures are stored, with a couple more gotchas — because the obj/mtl file format is ancient, it does not store advanced Poser materials, only the basic surfaces settings. Also, there are many different ways to export a .mtl file, but not all of them will let D|S read it.

if the pz3 loads fine then export that from DAZ studio as an obj with collecting maps option ticked
then it should reload as one obj textured if using texture maps
I do this a lot to weld seperate props as one object so not a silly idea at all
