IS BIG DAZ SPYING ON ME?

Why is DAZ writing renders to C:\"User"\AppData\Roaming\DAZ 3D\Studio4\temp\RenderAlbumTmp

and then writing the same file to C:\"User"\AppData\Roaming\DAZ 3D\Studio4\temp\Render

This even after I specify in the Render Pane what the destination should be.  So now the same render is being written to three different places.

Why is this and how can it be stopped?

Those are temp directories renders get written to, and the contents are saved to wherever we want when we click "Save" in the render window.  That stuff gets overwritten and emptied all the time, although some stuff gets stuck there occasionally when DS crashes.

I'm not sure there's a way around this other than no longer using DS.  If you're worried about Daz spying, you can disable its firewall access.

I don't know why there are two temp render directories. The files produced are different in size so perhaps the RenderAlbumTmp is for album thumbnails?

I was worried about space on my PC because I am getting low, but I checked and these temporary render files are deleted every time you exit DAZ Studio.

As Sevrin mentioned, if DAZ Studio crashes, they will not be deleted. But the next time you run and exit DAZ Studio it deletes all of these files, even the ones that were left behind by the crash.

Hence its name, as far as I know.

  • Are cache files the same as temp files and are they deleted as well every time you close Daz?

They have the same nature, yes. Though temp files are usually meant as a method to save (parts of) a current project whereas cache files are normally used to save resources which are meant to be re-used at a later time.
