The toolbox is extending the UltraScenery capability and doing the best it can by identifying the duplicate layer name and and renaming it for you. When combining layers from different ecologies there is always the possibility of getting things too dense or having overlapping plants, because they were not designed to work together.

    If you want to get into it, you could use a text editor to edit the ecology you created with the toolbox, and change the tree distribution spacing of one of the two Oaks layers, so the trees don't all land on top of each other. You'll probably still get some tree canopy overlap and maybe a few in the same location. To spread the trees further apart (hence fewer trees), make the spacing value larger. Most importantly, make each Oaks layer have a different spacing value than the other. There are more exotic changes you could make, but start simple and see if that works for you. The ecology is plain text JSON code that you can edit with any text editor.

    Alternatively, use an image editor to create a layer mask with black and black areas. Load the the mask image in the Build tab of UltraSceneCreator on the tree layers. Click on the mask and invert it for one of the two tree layers. That will keep the bases of the trees separate. Any place that is gray in the mask will allow a mixture of the two tree types (and overlap).  Any place where white meets black in the mask will still allow the trees to possibly end up close together along that border. With masks, you often get fewer trees overall.

    Another option is to use the UST Instance Group Locator in Toolbox II to move the overlapping trees after they have been placed by UltraSceneCreator.

    When you create the ecology in Ecology Engineer, you can add affinity and set one Oaks layer to repel from the other Oaks layer by a specified amount. No masks are needed and no ecology JSON editing is needed. This might be the easiest solution to identical tree placement.

    So many ways to skin a cat.

    I don't neccesarily think of it as a bug, but certainly something to be mindful of and possibly create a fix for in a future update. The Toolbxes have been out for a while and they extend the usability of Ultrascene by a lot.

    And I found a much easier way to uncouple the trees–I just moved the instance groups apart. The trees are still close by but not on top of each other. ;)

    Looking at the train shots it isn't sitting on the rails either :)

     What I have done in the past was to sit the train as close to being on the track as I can, zoom right into the wheels, then use the scale slider to either widen/narrow the track 'til it fits...approx. :)

    FWIW, it would appear that I used a track section from The Old Railway for this one I did with the Western Express Train Bundle. It required scale tweaking and all of the surfaces are modified.

    Now that I look closer... you are right... I tried getting the train to fit the track.. but the train I used musn't be straight as the track... cause the wheels don't like up.  I'll have to play some more :)  Thanks Fishtales.

    I have the Parkside set of trains but they are old and rusty... and too modern...

    That was the first thing I learned when my Daz venture started: "There's always another sale." smiley I just don't always have as much patience as my mother's daughter ought to have when it comes to saving money with a sale. Pretty much anything Ultrascenery, real-world horse-related, anything that fits mid 19th to mid 20th century settings, I'll snap up on the first day. Although I've been occupied for the last week building a new art computer, I'm totally watching for that new "Desert" themed stuff to come along..

    Desert is fine... but I was hoping UltraScenery SNOW would come along for Christmas.  I've been making do with the US add ons though.

USC/USXT gets involved in almost any image I create, except for the urban settings. 

    Luckily my husband is very supportive of this hobby. I bought my first art computer in 2021, when I was excited to find a pre-built with a 3060 card (back when video cards were unobtainium). With the hard drive almost full on that computer, I was at a crossroads of what to do, and we decided it was time to upgrade. The new computer has a 3090 and 64GB RAM; only 3T storage at the moment, but I'll just move to bigger drives when the time comes. The computer shop that built it custom for me suggested building it to be "enough" and as memory and drive space gets cheaper (almost literally) tomorrow, expand as needed.

    I have not messed with the .json stuff yet, but I believe our resident USC magician barbult has extensive details about that. If I just would stop buying stuff, and start learning to use what I have, I'll read those ... bringing me to that other well-known Daz saying ... "Buying stuff and making art are two different hobbies." smiley

    I'm looking for a bigger external hard drive myself.  With the better grapics card came more renders... more renders... more space on my hard drive... lol.

    Lots for me to learn in the New Year... I'm kinda swamped with the holidays now... lol.  I still wanna render a train in US though... When I find the time... Got any to spare?

    In mid-1950, when I was living in Los Angeles, CA, there was a resturant at the end of our street which still had ice deliveries for their commercial ice boxes. It arrived on a horse-drawn wagon and was the highlight of the neighborhood kids who would grab bits of ice from it to suck on in the summer. It may have been the summer of 1956, as shortly after that we moved across town to a bigger house, as my little sister was born and I started kindergarten at the new house. So even in LA, horses were still working animals. But later in elementary school, they had to bring in farm animals so we would know what they actually looked like. And there were still orange groves everywhere and the freeways were just starting to be built. In the 1930s my father would take the bus with his mahogany surf board to the beach to surf. It was a weird transistion time.
